We had the good fortune of connecting with Habit Blcx and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Habit, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
That there are no straight lines to success. In fact, it’s a winding road, with many ups, downs, and detours and that is okay. You don’t fail, you position yourself to be better next time. We shouldn’t fear our dreams, fear an unlived life, fear not giving the gift you’ve been given.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my creative journey as a musician which eventually led me up to different creative mediums which include my podcast and the book that I have coming out in 2020. I’m most proud of my consistency over the years and being able to build a fan base all independent. My brand “Progress is a Process” started in 2015, went to take a life of its own with the introduction of the merch arm of the company. I got where I am simply with being a consistent creator. Often times this is very challenging for those starting off because of the crippling fear that comes with actually getting started. To overcome any challenge you have to believe in yourself more than anything. Over the years, I’ve learned a ton of lessons that I want to share with those starting out on their creative journey, all of which I will outline in my book, “Progress is a Process”. I will say this to anyone starting out that is unsure of what they want to do, follow your curiosity and see where it takes you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well since thigs are closed due to COVID, options are limited but here are some spots I love. Note I travel a whole lot, so here are few spots that I love to hit up when I am home. Jerk Spot (Jamaican food) Hilltop Cafe (coffee spot, good vibes, a whole bunch of creative people hanging out) Santa Monica Stairs (working out) The Parlor (sports bar, good vibes) Association (Downtown LA- cool bar, good drinks, and music) Tenants of the Tree (cool bar, good drinks, and music)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, God. I have to give a major shoutout to my parents they’ve have been such a shining example of resilience and faith. Major shoutout to the homies, you know who you are. We keep each other accountable and inspired.
