We had the good fortune of connecting with Haley Copello and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Haley, how do you think about risk?
Risk-taking is an integral part of my journey as a musician, shaping both my life and career. I’ve always approached risk with a blend of determination and belief in myself, investing significant amounts of personal funds into recordings and live performances. In 2022, fueled by confidence in my abilities, I made the bold decision to leave my job and commit fully to music. While this leap of faith initially presented challenges, such as financial strain from studio expenses and hiring musicians, it ultimately propelled me forward on my creative path. Reflecting on my journey, I recognize that embracing risk has been essential for growth and success in an industry where self-belief and perseverance are paramount.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My journey in the music industry began with a move to Southern California in 2012, driven by a passion for music and a desire to pursue formal education in the field. However, my spirits were dampened by a discouraging experience at a music school, leading me to forge my own path. I immersed myself in the local music scene, connecting with fellow musicians, recording music, and joining various bands to gain experience. Along the way, I’ve learned invaluable lessons in commitment, passion, discipline, communication, and risk . I worked two jobs and was trying to perform in bands. I was working everyday non stop. Despite facing obstacles and often playing gigs at personal expense in the beginning. I’ve remained steadfast in my pursuit, honing my craft and embracing the thrill of live performances.
Through it all, I’ve come to understand the importance of self-discipline, the power of saying no, and the resilience needed to thrive in an industry where perseverance is key.
In just one year of quitting my full time job , my musical endeavors have led me to perform at an array of venues such as Orange County fair to intimate private events, weddings, restaurants, party boats and so much more. If there’s one message I wish to convey to the world, it’s the transformative power of self-belief and the boundless opportunities that await those who pursue their passions. My journey serves as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the immense potential that lies within each of us to carve out our own paths to success.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting the Orange County area, I’d ensure they have an unforgettable time!. We’d start by strolling through the Orange Circle. There are so many fun antique shops, and restaurants. A visit to Balboa Island would be a must, where we could rent a Duffy boat and float in the harbor. For a taste of local brews and lively atmosphere, we’d hop around the numerous breweries and vibrant bars scattered throughout the area. And no visit would be complete without a walk through downtown Disney!
If we really feeling adventurous Temecula is always fun for wine hoping and good music!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Dedicated to my husband Ian Garcia, whose unwavering support has been the cornerstone of my journey as a musician. Without his encouragement and belief in my abilities, I wouldn’t have had the courage to take the leap of faith and pursue my dreams. Ian’s presence at every performance, his steadfast support, and his belief in my talent have been my pillars of strength throughout this endeavor. I am immensely grateful for his love, encouragement, and unwavering faith in me, which have made all the difference in my pursuit of a full-time music career.
