Meet Hannah Zimmerman | Associate Psychologist (pre-licensed)

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Zimmerman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I absolutely hate taking risks; and it’s necessary for anyone attempting to build their own business. It takes a high amount of self confidence, a willingness to fail and an understanding that if you ask 100 people, you will get maybe not quite 100 opinions, but close to it, so ask yourself, consult as needed and then try. This is still something I’m working on but I think it’s hugely important.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a psychotherapist who specializes in trauma, neurodiversity, and treatment for athletes (primarily those struggling with substance use disorders, anxiety and depression). In addition to my commitment to confidentiality and discretion, what sets me apart is probably that I have taken the time to gain familiarity and supervised training in most areas of mental health. What that means is that I can adapt to the treatment approach I use to the person in front of me. You ask what I’ve learned along the way and I think the best response to that is I have learned that therapy takes bravery, no matter the treatment and no matter the therapy goals. I deeply believe that everyone would benefit from therapy and that those willing to prioritize their health, both mind and body, deserve praise. I frequently wonder what the world would be like if everyone cared enough about their ability to form health relationships, ability to perform to their best ability and ability to show up as fully themselves, the way that my clients do. I hold my clients in high respect, I believe my job is to help my clients hear themselves and if I were to have a “brand” it would probably be that I see myself as a teammate on my client’s journey. I help them see and listen to their own strength, and they really do the rest.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh I am so glad you ask! I’m going to pretend you also told me money was not an obstacle in this perfect sight seeing trip. So I would spend the first weekend in Malibu, I’d stay on the ocean front down past Zuma beach to avoid the tourists. I’d take us on beach walks at El Matador and point dume and some of those beaches you have to have private access to that we will pretend I don’t know about. We’d go shopping obviously get Sun Life and either do the wine tastings in the mountains or do the rental-horse-back riding in the hills. I’d go to Nobu both nights. Then I’d take us down the coast to Santa Monica for a day and wander 3rd street and Montana. I really like doing appetizers at the Misfit and then Sugar Fish for dinner, but if we’re sticking with the money’s-not-an-issue story, Meat on Ocean really is very good. Next we’d have to go to Venice, obviously you have to take the tourists to see the all the street vendors and the skate park (especially if you point blank refuse to drive to the Hollywood sign) and then maybe Marina Del Ray beach and lunch at the Cow’s End. Then we’d move on up to Culver (my home base) and do Baccari, Laurel Grill and of course the Culver Steps. Then I’d have our last day be Manhattan just wandering the shops and beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think Dr. Chris Marrero who runs Marrero Psychology is worthy of a shout out in my success, she has served as an excellent role model and mentor to me over the years. Dr. Mya Little, who runs Elite Mind Corp deserves a huge shout out, we began working together at The Meadows Malibu with professional hockey, soccer, basketball and football players and I now work with her at Elite Mind Corp, the business she began for mental health treatment geared towards athletes specifically. She’s incredibly talented, wise, and speaking of risks, someone I would point towards as a model for how worth it it is to put your ideas out there, even when it’s scary! She has been incredibly encouraging and I am honored to be able to work with her.
