We had the good fortune of connecting with Hao Do and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hao, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose an artistic, creative career because there is no ceiling or limitations to my potential. Sure, if you want to consider revenue and income a criteria to determine the value of my potential; that is a subjective matter. With where I am currently in my life, the risks are more rewarding. I know that as a I grow older and gain more responsibilities than I already have, my risk-tolerance will change. As of right now, having the freedom to be creative is not bound to my payroll. What one customer, client, patron views as being valuable may be perceived different from individual to individual.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The challenge is on-going. I came to Los Angeles to become an actor. I left my corporate career in 2016 from Arkansas to be here. What sets me apart from most people that come to LA to pursue that arts is that I came with a game-plan. I came prepared. Over time, I readjusted the route but the end-goal has always been the same, to be successful in my craft. Along the way, I’ve learned that you can not put a timeframe on this industry. Don’t expect to come to LA and become a successful actor in X amount of years. I’ve been doing this for almost 9 years now. I still take it day by day. Sure, I’ve added new ventures to my resume but it’s all so I can continue doing what I love, and that is to be an actor. Turn the challenges into opportunities. That’s what I would tell people that want to get started. You will run into problems but instead of looking at the negative, look at it from a positive as to how does this situation benefit my livelihood and experience.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m naturally an introvert so a week’s worth of going out would be exhausting for someone like myself. With that being said, I would recommend Koreatown for all the best eats. If they are into shopping, I’d recommend Westfield Century City mall since it’s got the best layout. Maybe The Grove because it just has the best vibes. Bars/nightlife, I’m not an expertise on this because I work in the nightlife and most of my weekends are spent behind the bar but I would suggest coming to my bar, The Abbey.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
By the end of the day, I work as hard as I do because I want to make the people, that I care most about, proud of me. Those people are my family. Mom, dad, and two younger sisters. Being the oldest, male in the family comes with a set of expectations. Those expectations may not be set by my family, but they are set by myself.
