Meet Heath Farmer | Founder – Coastal Wolves (indie/alternative)

We had the good fortune of connecting with Heath Farmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heath, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I wrote the first Coastal Wolves song shortly after going to Coachella in 2022 for the first time. I’ve been going at it as an artist for years, and I’ve had to listen to music industry snobs repeatedly tell me that you should try to be this or you shouldn’t do that, etc. But there’s no greater clarity as a musical artist than simply going to shows, and my biggest take away from Coachella that year was that the only thing music fans care about is if they love the music and that you are being true to yourself as an artist.
It doesn’t matter what genre you are, how “cool” you think you are, or even necessarily if you’re doing what’s current in music at that point in time. As long as you are being authentic and the audience believes you in how you are connecting to your own music, then they will get behind you. Lead and they will follow.
I started Coastal Wolves as a way to write the music I want to hear and to be true to myself as an artist. That’s it. Do I want it take off? Absolutely. But as long as I’m still breathing, I’ll be making music whether I’m performing at The Hollywood Bowl or a bowling alley. Deal with it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
If there’s one thing I want to separate Coastal Wolves from other artists, I want it to be that I actively put an emphasis on songwriting above all else. How an artist presents a song matters a great deal–their ability in performing and singing the song, the production quality, the style and genre in which that song is packaged, etc. However, the most important element of being an artist with longevity is having a song that strikes through the core of the listener, whether it be having catchy hooks, memorable lyrics, or melodic themes and chord progressions that affect the listener in some meaningful way. In our social media age where people are willing to do outlandish things to compete for attention, people seem to forget that the best way to hold someone’s attention is to write a song that will live in their heads forever.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Every time I’m in LA, my go-to spot is Monty’s Good Burger on Sunset Blvd. Burger joints around the country, take note: people like me are willing to empty their pockets over a great burger that’s vegan.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As with everything I do, I want to dedicate this “Shoutout” to the people in my life who have supported my vision through the years and continue to do so–my wife, my family, my friends, and the people who listen to my music and come out to the shows.
