Meet Heather Porter | Chief Talent Visionary at Vizion Solar and Dream Free Recruiting

We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Porter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most important thing I’ve done as a parent is to lead by example and teach my child, Ocean, the value of resilience, independence, kindness and finding joy in every step of life. Life is a blend of challenges and opportunities, and I want my children to see that every obstacle is a chance to grow, and every dream is within reach. My own journey, especially recovering from a severe accident I had as a young woman in high school, taught me the power of inner strength, adaptability, and perseverance.
Beyond resilience, I focus on guiding my child to live a life rooted in harmony through the famous five F pillars: 1. Family, 2. Fitness, 3. Fun, 4. Finance, and 5. Faith. These are like a compass, helping us navigate life with purpose and fulfillment. It’s not about striving for perfect balance every day—that’s impossible—but about making sure we’re dedicating time and energy to nurturing each pillar over time. This approach has helped me transform life’s challenges into opportunities and build a life that feels whole and meaningful. I hope that by living this way, I can show my child how to create their own version of a thriving, balanced life.
Another lesson I prioritize is the importance of dreaming freely. I encourage him to imagine without limits, to see the beauty in what they want for themselves, and to believe that their dreams are already within reach. Turning dreams into reality starts in the mind—if you can see it and believe in it, you can make it happen. This idea has been central to my life and career, and I want them to grow up knowing they hold the power to shape their own destiny.
Last but not least, I want Ocean to know that success isn’t just about working hard or achieving specific milestones—it’s about enjoying the journey, cherishing the relationships we build, and finding fulfillment in all aspects of life. By embracing this philosophy, I hope to give him the confidence and tools to face challenges, celebrate their unique journey, and live with purpose and joy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work is all about helping people turn their dreams into reality. At Vizion Solar, I focus on creating opportunities for individuals to thrive, regardless of their background or prior experience. What sets us apart is our belief in the power of learning by doing and mentorship. We don’t require specific educational credentials or years of experience—if someone has the drive and willingness to learn, we give them the tools and guidance they need to succeed.
What I’m most proud of is how we’ve built a team culture centered on resilience, independence, and mutual support. I want every person we work with to feel empowered, not just professionally but in their lives as a whole. Our brand is about more than just solar energy—it’s about providing people with the means to grow and find their own light.
Getting to where I am today has been far from easy. My journey has taken me through so many industries—sales, hospitality, fitness, esthetics, massage therapy, and now recruiting. Each step taught me something valuable, but the real turning point came after my accident. I had to rebuild myself from the ground up, and that experience gave me a deep understanding of resilience and the importance of inner strength. It’s also where I learned that success starts with doing it for yourself first—when you build a strong foundation for yourself, you’re better equipped to lift others up.
The biggest lessons I’ve learned are to stay flexible, keep dreaming, and never stop believing in the power of growth. Challenges are inevitable, but they’re also where the most growth happens. I’ve learned to embrace them as opportunities to become stronger and wiser.
One of the philosophies I live by is rooted in the pillars I mentioned before, the 5F:
1. Family, 2. Fitness, 3. Fun, 4. Finance, and 5. Faith. They’re like my guideposts, helping me stay grounded and balanced no matter what life throws at me. At the end of each day, I like to pause for a moment and think about how I’ve nurtured each one—whether it’s a small act of kindness, a laugh shared with someone I love, or simply taking care of my body and mind. It’s my way of staying grateful and feeling fulfilled, knowing I’ve made the most of the day.
What I want the world to know about me, what I do at Vizion Solar and Dream Free Recruiting, is that we’re not just a business—we’re a vizion (with a Z!) for what’s possible when people are given the chance to thrive. Our brand is about dreaming freely, creating opportunities, and supporting each other as we turn those dreams into reality. At the heart of everything we do is the belief that if we can imagine it, we can achieve it, and that if we commit, we’ll never quit.
That’s what keeps me inspired every single day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ah! That’s a tough question. There’s so much to see in this area of Los Angeles. Let’s see… If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d want to show her the beauty and charm of the area while making sure we had plenty of time to relax, catch up, and enjoy some family-friendly fun. Here’s how I’d plan the trip:
Day 1: Coastal Ride and Relaxation
We’d start with a scenic bike ride along the beautiful coastal trails in Rancho Palos Verdes, taking in the ocean views and feeling the sea breeze. Afterward, we’d stop at one of my favorite local coffee spots for a chat and some much-needed caffeine. Dinner would be at my house, overlooking the ocean to watch the sunset—there’s nothing like dining with an ocean view and I l-l-love our house for this.
Day 2: Beach and Tide Pools
The next day, we’d head to the nearby shoreline parks to explore tide pools and enjoy the sandy beaches. It’s perfect for both adults and kids, so my baby could join in the fun while we catch up. Lunch would be a casual picnic, and we’d spend the rest of the day walking along the coast, enjoying the natural beauty.
Day 3: Bike and Coffee Adventures
We’d begin the day with another bike ride, this time along the paths connecting the beach cities. It’s a great way to soak up the local vibe. We’d stop for coffee in a nearby beach town, then spend the afternoon walking through the local piers and harbors, exploring little shops and maybe grabbing a bite with yet again, an ocean view. I mean, I named my kid Ocean, after all. (She winks).
Day 4: A day trip would be in order.
This time of year, the incredible Astra Lumina event at the Botanical Gardens is a must-see. It’s a magical, immersive experience that brings the gardens to life in a way that feels like stepping into another world. It’s the perfect way to mix a little adventure and wonder into the week. Afterward, we’d have lunch and dinner in nearby areas with a relaxed, family-friendly vibe, giving us plenty of time to unwind and soak in the day’s memories.
Day 5: A Relaxing Recharge Day
This day would be all about relaxation and reconnecting with ourselves. We’d start with a leisurely walk through one of the serene gardens or parks in the area so my dogs can also join, soaking in the peace and quiet. Afterward, we’d have a light lunch, and then I’d take some time in the afternoon to practice sacro-cranial therapy—a gentle, hands-on technique that helps release tension and promote balance in the body. These days, I only practice on close friends because of my busy life, but I used to run a healing practice by the ocean before moving to Palos Verdes. The day would end at home, enjoying the ocean breeze and sharing meaningful conversations to round out a truly restorative experience.
Day 6: Freedom Day
In honor of my philosophy of being and dreaming free, this day would be completely open for my friend to choose whatever she wants to do. Whether it’s exploring more of the coast, diving into a fun adventure, or simply spending a relaxed day enjoying coffee and great conversation, the focus would be on making the day hers. I’d love to see what inspires her and go along for the ride—it’s all about creating memories that feel true to her and embracing the beauty of spontaneity.
Day 7: A Farewell with a View
On the last day, we’d take one final coastal walk to soak in the incredible views that make this area so special, giving us a chance to reflect on the memories we’ve made and enjoy a heartfelt goodbye.
The beauty of this area is that it offers the perfect blend of nature, relaxation, and family-friendly activities. Whether it’s biking along the coast, grabbing coffee with friends, or spending time with my baby, there’s something special about sharing these moments with the people I love.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people, experiences, and even books that have played a role in shaping who I am today, but if I had to narrow it down, I would dedicate my shoutout to my parents, my family, my accident… and a book that deeply resonated with me, Atomic Habits by James Clear.
First, my parents are the foundation of everything I know about hard work, resilience, and independence. Growing up in the desert, watching them run their business together without a single day off, taught me the importance of showing up, being on time, and pushing through even when things get tough. My dad especially instilled in me the value of fighting for what you want and not giving up when life gets hard. That mindset has been my guiding force through every challenge I’ve faced.
They also taught me the importance of a focused mindset that comes when a couple works together in harmony, making them a power couple with the same values I bring into my own marriage.
Then, my accident was a pivotal moment in my life. It forced me to completely reevaluate my path and rebuild from scratch, teaching me the true meaning of resilience and strength from within. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without that experience—it taught me not just to survive but to thrive and find purpose in every step of the journey. It was very hard to learn everything back again, talking, walking, …thinking. But I made it, and I am very proud of myself.
I have to give credit to my husband Chase, the CEO of Vizion Solar, too, as he has been my rock and a constant source of encouragement. His dedication to the business and our family inspires me every day. Together, we’ve built a life that reflects our shared values of hard work, dreaming big, and supporting each other’s growth. And, of course, our beautiful baby Ocean deserves credit too. Becoming a parent has been life-changing in the best way—it’s taught me the importance of living with intention, finding harmony, and staying flexible in the face of life’s many demands.
Finally, Atomic Habits by James Clear holds a special place in my heart. His story of recovering from a brain injury hit so close to home for me. It reminded me of the power of small, consistent changes and how they can lead to transformative results. His insights inspired me to approach both my personal growth and my work with a mindset of patience and intentionality, which has been key to my success.
I also want to recognize the people I’ve worked with and mentored along the way. Every person I’ve had the privilege to guide, support, or even just connect with has left a lasting impact on me. They remind me why I do what I do—to give people opportunities and help them turn their dreams into reality. Their growth and success are just as much a part of my story as my own journey.
