We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Thurman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I mostly work in the probate niche of real estate in Los Angeles. Outsiders would not believe the amount of work that we do to get the property ready to List. And instead of working with a single owner, there is often a large family with differing ideas.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am kind of a hybrid. I’ve done creative things my whole life; like singing with the Nashville Symphony. I recently published a book about my cancer journey called The Little Book of Healing-thriving through cancer. It’s an amazon bestseller. I wrote it as I was going through cancer ten years ago. At the time, I was working for a large healthcare company selling credentialing software. After I survived I knew I wanted to do something different with my life. I got my real estate license in 2018. It was the best thing I have ever done. It’s certainly not easy but it is very rewarding. I have enjoyed doing some public speaking about my book, too. I guess I am a late bloomer because I feel like my life has all come together.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the traditional things like the Walk of Fame. It’s always exciting to walk up and down and see people from all over the world visiting. One of my absolute favorite lunch spots is Aroma Cafe on Tujunga Avenue. Moe always makes me feel so welcomed and the food is excellent. It’s fun to see industry folks pouring over a script, too. You just never know who you might see. I am a huge Friends fan so of course I would take them on the Warner Brothers Tour. At the end we would chat in the Friends Cafe and savor their delicious food. Since we have done a bit of eating it’s time to hike Runyon or walk in Santa Monica. I especially love walking between Venice and Santa Monica beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to Shoutout my Brokerage-Nourmand & Associates and my business partner Mark Walker. I moved here from Nashville three years ago. I would not have the success that I have without such a wonderful Brokerage (voted Best Places to work for 7 years). Also, Mark has over 20 years of experience in LA and he is great at what he does. He has mentored me and now we are partnering on deals and for that, I am extremely grateful! I’m also grateful for my amazing new friends like Bridie who have been so instrumental in me feeling at home here. They are very supportive and encouraging.
