Meet Heaven Nunez | Performing Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Heaven Nunez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heaven, why did you pursue a creative career?
I felt like there was nothing else I could pursue that would fulfill me as deeply as the arts do.
I have a lot of activities and hobbies that I enjoy, but nothing has ever matched the feeling that performing, (acting & singing), gives me. I’ve tried to divert my focus to something in the job industry that’s “safer” and more sustainable, but it always left me feeling unsatisfied.
The idea that I get to be someone that I’m not on stage/ film and tell the character’s story is exhilarating in its own. The rush you get from feeding off of the audience’s energy is otherworldly. I always knew that whatever I did in life had to impact others in the most positive way, and I believe taking them on a journey through telling a story that needs to be told is positively benefiting most. We as humans need the arts to express ourselves and to give people a safe space feel emotions we don’t always feel most comfortable feeling. There are so many ways I plan to give back to the community through my wrt and creative endeavors, so I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.
I knew from a young age that if I didn’t pursue my passions, I would regret it for the rest of my life. Although it has been a rollercoaster of emotions facing rejections and appreciations every other day, I have to say i wouldn’t have it any other way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am so grateful to have been doing musical theatre since the age of 6 years old, which I found helped me really build the foundation of my craft to expand off of as I matured.
In no way was this journey easy. There were multiple moments where I questioned my talents and whether or not I was good enough to pursue this career. Almost all of my career there have been people that were not supportive of me continuing my passion for this industry. To say that these people didn’t affect me and my belief in myself would be a lie, I was constantly undermining myself and my work. It wasn’t until I started working professionally did I see the shift in energy from most and truly started to believe in myself again.
I think a part of me always believed in myself, even if I didn’t fully know it. In order to be in this industry, you have to be your biggest supporter. As long as you have the passion and drive to go after what you want, you will achieve so many beautiful things in your life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting me for a week, we would have to cram so many things into our days.
One day would consist of starting the day with a typical LA boutique fitness class, probably yoga, pilates or a spin class, out in Venice/ Santa Monica. We then would head to get my favorite açaí bowls from Backyard Bowls. After eating, we would explore Abbott Kinney, get some shopping done and then get a cute little Vanilla matcha with pistachio milk from Little Lunch Coffee. Dinner would probably be Wabi on Rose or Gjelina.
Most other days would consist of exploring PCH and all the little stops on the way up to malibu. some restaurants we would have to try are Laurel Hardware, Hopdoddy, Tatsu Ramen, and if they enjoyed, sushi I would take them to Bui Sushi or Sushi Enya. Of course I would have to take them to my favorite vegan restaurant, Planta Cocina but the Marina Del Rey location at sunset.
One other fun idea would be to get In N Out or thai food take out and drive to the coast for sunset.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe all my successes to my family for supporting me as I pursue this career. They’re the ones that had to drive me to rehearsals and vocal lessons every single day without fail. The shoulders that were there for me to cry on when I didn’t get the part. My biggest supporters and the ones that believe in me even when I struggle to do so at times.
I also owe a lot of my training to Susan Silver who was my high school drama teacher and vocal coach. She helped push my talents past my limits and never once put me in a box. She knew what I could do prior to me even knowing, helping me discover my voice as I grew up. I would not be the performer I am today without her.
