We had the good fortune of connecting with Henry D’Ambrosio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Henry, how do you think about risk?
Risks and taking leaps of faith have played a huge role in my life and in my career. It’s the one thing that has gotten me this far and will continue to push me and get me where I need and want to be. Had I not moved to Los Angeles when I was 19 In pursuit of working in the music industry, gone to multiple studio sessions without knowing what was gonna happen or where it would take me, and opening a recording studio in the middle of a pandemic with a baby on the way; I wouldn’t be where I am today. Achieving goals and dreams that I had set out for myself, with so much more to do and risks to take. You have to take those risks and those leaps of faith because if you don’t you may never reach your full potential. You have to learn to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. That’s where the magic happens. That’s where you experience your true self.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an Audio Engineer, Music Producer and Studio Owner its imperative to set yourself apart from others that do the same in your industry. That goes for any industry. I believe what sets me apart from others is my dedication to my craft and my work ethic. Not saying others don’t possess the same drive I just know I will never stop and keep pushing forward. What we do is for the community our studio, the ONTHE1SOUNDS Studio located in Leimert Park, is there not only to serve the artists that book sessions but to serve the community we are in. We have to give back to move forward. One thing I’m most proud of is that we stayed true to ourselves. We stayed true to the art. We built the studio exactly how we intended to, exactly where we wanted and never rushed the process. We saw it through. One thing I’m most excited about is what’s to come next for the studio as well as my own career and the community we serve. There are many things in the works and I can’t wait to share them all. It was a long unpredicting road to where I am today. Not even close to how I thought it would go when I first started about 12 years ago, but I couldn’t be happier how it went and how we got here. I never gave up. Sure there were times I wanted to take a long break or step away from the music, but I can never quit music it’s apart of me. I just had to take the hard times and understand these are lessons, not losses. I had to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Thats when the magic started to happen and I still have so much to learn and do. We are just getting started. Don’t ever give up, keeping going forward as cliche as that sounds, its true. If you are truly passionate about somehting see it through. Take those leaps of faith and chances more likely than not its going to work out.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to Leimert Park and we would get a coffee and a Soul Bowl at Hot & Cool Cafe then head upstairs to my studio, ONTHE1SOUNDS Studios, and listen to something we’ve been working on! Leimert is the heartbeat of Los Angeles so rich in, not only, music and creative culture but rich in community. We would hang out at the World Stage and see if we can catch a show, virtually of course during these times. We then would head over to Harun and get another coffee and pastry to keep the day going. If we had the time and hours to spare we would wait for some of the best tacos you’ve ever had from World Wide Tacos. If that took too long we’d have to hit up Hugh Augustine and see if we can pick up a Hugh’s Hot Bowl. There are so many great areas, food, and culture in LA but these are some of my favorite places.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been so many people in my life that have I had the pleasure to learn from and grow with. It’s hard to name just one. I would feel wrong for doing that because each of these people throughout my career and life has impacted me in some type of way. So what I can do is list some people who come to mind and please don’t come for me if I didn’t, forgot to, mention you please know I value the time you gave me. Silvana, Rey, Bamba, Mom, Jo, Rocky, Dad, Guru, Neal Pogue, Mitchell, Robert, Ryan, Tony, Illcamille, John Ross, Glenn Gonda, Nick Breton, Montage, Hugh Augustine, Mo, James, Seti, Yonas, Thurz, Te’Amir, Tutu, Carrie, Pops, Adam, etc. etc. etc. The list can go on and on. I’m a firm believer you can learn something from everyone you cross paths with, good or bad. It’s all a learning and growing experience.
