We had the good fortune of connecting with HisNails Dope and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi HisNails, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
There was no thought process, I was a high school drop out at 16, I knew if I left school I didn’t wanna be a bum at home so I got myself a job working security. I remember I lied about my age & told them I was 19, they didn’t ask for my ID, social, birth certificate they just said you’ll do 12 hours everyday and get paid 20$ an hour under the table, I was at the job for 6 months until my boss caught me sleeping than fired me, I remember going home that same day not knowing what was the next move, I was a drop out & now jobless. I knew I could make money with nails, so I went to facebook and posted an ad about my nails, it was just a hustle something to put money in my pocket, that ad was up for two days, within those two days I was booked out for 3 months. It was a hustle at first.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I practice & practice & practice, I try to perfect my craft to the best of my ability,
I believe my drive & determination sets me apart from other nail artist, I never turn down a set even when I’m not to sure on how to slay it, it excites me!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I am from the Inland Empire it’s very dead out here, not much to do, if my best friend was to visit I would ask her why, if she still wanna come and visit I would take her to Ontario mills, Victoria garden than 5th street In San Bernardino

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my sister Savannah, I remember her telling me I was gonna be big in the nail industry, she would be like ‘brother you’re gonna be soooooooooo big with nails watch’

Shout out to my mother Vanessa for letting me do nails, I would take her acrylic and do nails in the garage when I was younger while everyone was asleep I was embarrassed because I was a boy doing nails but my mother never judged me she encouraged me

Shout out to all the girls who let me practice on them when I was horrible
