We had the good fortune of connecting with Honda Shahin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Honda, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting Shahin Studios was a natural progression for me as an artist and printmaker. Collaborating closely with my brother Marwan Shahin throughout our careers, including significant projects like the 2Vth Mural during the Egyptian Revolution in Alexandria, Egypt, and The infamous Smoking Kills installation, not to mention producing countless prints of his art laid a solid foundation for our artistic pursuits.
The decision to establish Shahin Studios stemmed from a deep passion for art, craftsmanship, and preserving traditional techniques. It was an opportunity to create a dedicated space for printmaking, focusing on our expertise in silkscreen printing and exploring the unique possibilities of printing on papyrus, a material deeply rooted in ancient Egyptian traditions.
By starting Shahin Studios, I aimed to provide a platform to showcase our artistic vision and create a bridge between past and present, combining traditional methods with contemporary expressions. Our commitment to craftsmanship and attention to detail is evident in every project we work on.
What should our readers know about your business?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting the area, I would undoubtedly invite them to visit Shahin Studios, where art, creativity, and community converge. I would invite my friend to immerse themselves in the dynamic atmosphere of our studio, which is more than just a workshop—it’s an art gallery, a clothing store, and a hub for artistic expression.
At Shahin Studios, we frequently host engaging events like pop-ups and print reveal parties, providing an opportunity for visitors to witness our artistic process firsthand. They would have the chance to explore our diverse range of creations, from captivating prints to unique clothing pieces. Located in the heart of Los Angeles, specifically in the vibrant Echo Park area, our studio encapsulates the essence of the city’s artistic spirit

which has provided a platform for artists like myself to showcase our work and engage with the vibrant artistic community in Hollywood. I am honored to have had the opportunity to create merchandise and paint a mural with my brother for such a historic venue, thanks to their unwavering support, and Ariya Behjat of Axenic has artistic insight and collaborative spirit have enriched our creative endeavors.
Lastly, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Shepard Fairey, a true visionary and an icon in the art world. His impact on contemporary art and activism is immeasurable, and his support has been a guiding force in my own artistic journey.
