We had the good fortune of connecting with HsiaoWei Hsiang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi HsiaoWei, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

Before I arrived in New York, I wasn’t pondering too deeply; I simply wanted to immerse myself in a different culture. Yet, as I settled here, I found myself profoundly inspired by the people, the scenery, the architecture, and much more. I encountered individuals from various backgrounds and industries, each contributing to my growing sense of creativity. It was this city and the people I met that ignited a spark within me, propelling me to embark on a journey as a content creator.

Furthermore, my interactions with numerous photographers and models here motivated me to explore modeling myself. As someone who lacked confidence, this journey was fraught with internal struggles. However, after enduring a lengthy 16-hour flight to reach here and making the decision to stay, I summoned the courage to step out of my comfort zone and pursue a career in modeling.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Everything I have is a result of stepping out of my comfort zone after moving to New York. None of it has been easy for me. I am someone who is afraid of failure. Throughout my life, I’ve tended to be more conservative. With every decision, I would prepare for the worst-case scenario and ask myself if I could handle it. If I could, then I would proceed.

However, since arriving here, I’ve become less cautious, eager to try out different things. I still consider the potential worst outcomes of each decision, but through growth and pushing myself, I’ve started to take bigger risks.

It was also because of my own changes that I had the opportunity to serve as the model for some designer brands and collaborate with amazing photographers. Furthermore, I got the chance to work with multiple brands to create short videos to promote not only products but also the stories behind them. I am very grateful for the trust and appreciation from the brands I collaborated with, and I hope to have the opportunity to collaborate with more brands in the future!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
New York is known for its world-famous cuisine, art museums, and more, but whenever friends visit me, I always take them thrift shopping in Williamsburg! Not only because I enjoy it myself, but Williamsburg offers a comfortable environment for strolling, with plenty of eateries, cafes, and bars along the streets. It’s not your typical tourist spot, so it’s always on my hidden gems list!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Most importantly, I am grateful to my parents, who have supported me in every decision, both emotionally and practically. I firmly believe that without their belief in me, I would not have been able to achieve all my past accomplishments. Besides them, I am also thankful for my friends who have accompanied me through the lows and lifted me up, especially my good friend and roommate, Albee. Lastly, I want to express gratitude to BoChun, a photographer, for his companionship. He has pushed me to try new things bit by bit and accompanied me through these past two years of growth. Of course, there are many more people to thank, and just the thought of them fills me with immense gratitude, reminding me that the journey of self-improvement and growth is not one I undertake alone.
