Meet Iggy| Lionshead | Singer and Songwritier

We had the good fortune of connecting with Iggy| Lionshead and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Iggy| Lionshead, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was in the Metropolitan Children’s Opera Choir as a child, from there my curiosity for instruments and song writing developed. From there, I joined several bands which forged a path for me to be a solo vocalist.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a New Yorker, I always imagined my career would start in New York. It did in some aspect, I played a key role in several different bands, and performed in every local hot spot in LES (lower aside) Williamsburg and Westchester. This opportunity helped honed my writing skills. I use to stand outside of Mercury lounge playing my guitar, and a friend from Germany randomly passed by. We spoke, and he convinced me to write over some instrumentals he created. This was an important moment in my career, because this moment and instrumental led to my first radio hit. He called me about three months after sending him the track I wrote and said, “You’re song is playing on Bayern 3” I responded with, “What the hell is Bayern 3” later finding out that it was one for the biggest radio stations in Europe. So I jumped on a plane and started writing songs everyday in Munich, Berlin and Hamburg. I slept on friends couches and rented occasional AirBnB. This taught me a valuable lesson which helped me understand creativity, and how to adapt outside of my comfort zone. Living in a different country where I didn’t speak nor understand the native tung, made me that much more hungry to succeed. It was very challenging at first to make a different country your new home, but I succeeded and found my place. Eventually I got a record contract with Columbia Records and released my first “hit” single “When I wake Up”- which peaked at number 9 on the charts. I would like the world to know, that as an artist you need to go wherever the art takes you, and give everything you have to the art or project. You will fail, and fail, but success only comes after failure. I am songwriter who pours my life and inspirations into my art, and will go wherever the music takes me, first it was Italy then Germany and now it’s Los Angeles California.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend were visiting me in LA, we’d go to Venice beach to start things off, have tacos at Chilitos then walk down to the water to people watch, followed by some drinks and gazing upon the sunset. After that I would take them to WeHo to enjoy all the great restaurants and music events in the area, especially Dany’s.
On the second day I would drive out to West Malibu, and take them to Lechuza beach, it’s a beach that isn’t as crowded and you can easily walk over to Matador beach for stunning views. After an afternoon on the beach, I’d take them to Sunsets to grab lunch.
On day number 3, I’d take them to the Griffith Observatory, followed by a hike to the Hollywood sign.
The Getty Musuem is always a great place to take gaze upon Art with a wonderful view and it has a fantastic cafe overlooking all of LA.
I would avoid Universal Studios and Disney Land like the plague but if my guest insisted I would take them there! 🙂
Most importantly you gotta take a drive through the city. Pull over for a while and hang out, whether it’s the Santa Monica Pier, Hollywood, or Beverly Hills. There are always great restaurants to go to and people watching to be done.
To end the night, I’d head over to Chateua Marmont to grab dinner and drinks. It reminds me of Old Hollywood and nothing can beat the ambiance of this place.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to my Mother, who had me audition for the Metropolitan Opera Children’s Choir at 8 years old, which started my journey in music. Soon I was on stage with Luciano Pavoritti, and performing in three different opera productions a week.
Another shoutout goes to my Father who, when I was 15, bought me my first guitar. I then taught myself, the basic chords and started writing my first songs.
A third shoutout goes to Germany. I wrote and recorded some songs in my basement, not thinking much would come of it and about three months later I got a call that one of the songs was in heavy rotation on German radio, which led to a record deal, a spot as a Judge on the German “X-Factor” and sold out tours across Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
