We had the good fortune of connecting with Igor Djenge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Igor, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
You know that amazing rush of happiness when you’re making something you truly love? It’s like your inner kid is jumping for joy, right? That’s exactly how I feel when I pursue a creative path. I shape stories straight from my wild imagination and, as an actor, I bring every character to life. When I was a kid, I never imagined acting would mean so much to me. I even thought it would just be a passing interest. But with every role and every video I make, it feels ‘hella’ magnificent. Each play or film feels like I’m pouring my heart and soul into it, leaving me both thrilled and a little sad when it’s over. Playing characters isn’t just a job for me; it’s what keeps me going. And you know what’s the best part? When the audience connects so deeply with the character that they hold their breath or fight back tears – that’s when I know I’ve succeeded in my craft.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My aim and objective are to present visitors to my page with unconventional contents. What truly excites me is the ability to craft something that prompts a raised eyebrow from those who encounter it. It means share more wacky ideas. Think of a fusion of artists like Oliver Tree and Tommy Cash combined together. Their music videos are captivatingly vivid! I’ve had the opportunity to work on two independent films, ‘Witty & Crazy’ and ‘The 5 Days,’ with a dedicated team. They all are true artists. Each project has been a learning experience, offering valuable insights through keen observation. I observe a lot. Currently, I’m immersed in my solo project, taking the time to ensure every shot tells a compelling story. For this project, I’ve chosen not to establish a deadline because I want to ensure it’s thoroughly satisfying before sharing it with the world, featuring this new profound, original story. Directing, starring in, and editing a film requires a significant amount of time. A lengthy process. As for future projects, I prefer to keep them under wraps until they’re ready for unveiling. ‘Never let them know your next move’ is a motto I live by. Countless untold stories await to be shared worldwide, particularly those from a deaf artist. There are many of us out there.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
An ideal day in LA would look like this… I absolutely enjoy spending my days at Big Tujunga Creek, which is located near Burbank (in the San Gabriel Mountains). Many of my friends are unfamiliar with this hidden gem, so I’m always thrilled to introduce them to it. I love showing them this hidden oasis – lounging in my summer chair, dipping my feet in the creek while sharing laughs. I bring along a fantastic rolling cooler filled with cold drinks that brings us together. It somehow strengthens our bond. Trust me, this experience is incredibly rejuvenating on multiple levels, and I highly recommend it to anyone. And if we’re not at the creek, you’ll likely find us enjoying the beaches. Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time in the Los Feliz area where I live. It has great vibes and lots of chill people, for sure.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe much of my current lifestyle and choices to my loving parents, who have been instrumental in shaping where I am today. My dad, in particular, taught me how to live past my fears and pushed me to pursue ventures that may not seem stable at first glance. I like to practice a mindset of ‘why not try this?’ in life, especially if the losses don’t seem detrimental. Additionally, I’m extremely grateful to my supportive circle of friends who believed in me and supported my work when it might not have been understood by wider communities. Every person in my life has made an impact.
It’s important to acknowledge our Deaf community too. We are often misunderstood and overlooked when it comes to artistic talent. The deaf fans around the world make my work worth it. I really want to inspire every child in the world, regardless of the extent of their abilities, to believe in their limitless potential.
