We had the good fortune of connecting with Igor Gurgel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Igor, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
It all started out of necessity and waiting times. Everything we wanted to do or make and the expectations we had towards those same things were never met.
We then decided to proceed with making everything our selves from media, design & Apparel, within our abilities and accessibility to certain materials and equipment to the quality we wanted. We figured we could possibly cater and curate to like minded people. In the Automotive Culture Scene which is a niche by it self there is such a wide range to be creative nostalgic and inventive.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
To be where I am today wasn’t easy at all, I was born and raised in Portugal, despite Portugal or Lisbon being an Arts City and a very eclectic touristic city, economy wise isn’t as promising for Artists or creators at all.

I moved to London (United Kingdom) to chase the dream of working with Photography and Video, and the fact that I moved and started accomplishing some of my personal goals within the industry, I started to become noticed in my own country. Unfortunately to be someone of importance in my country you have to strive in a foreign one first.

Non the less Notomoto was born in Portugal, an Automotive Culture and Apparel brand, focused on the Aesthetics side of things and also to curate and improve how it portrays the Automotive Scene in General. We’ve been working with big brands in the industry giving us credibility and notoriety and the chance to work seamlessly at a World Wide scale.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
DownTown L.A. Is something pretty incredible for any Automotive, Fashion and Design Enthusiast, there are so many visual inspiring spots around the city, and surprisingly every time I’ve visited at 5:30am I end up meeting new people that are there to execute the same things or to chase the same vibes I’m chasing, creating a perfect set for likeminded people.

Would then proceed to the Motoring Club for the morning coffee & croissant routine, where the staff is impeccable and the coffee exceptional, paired with amazing classic cars on display and a very nice working and chilling area.

Towards Little Tokyo are some incredible dining spots, from Asian to Mediterranean restaurants, and some very chill bars, Beverly Hills is also pretty cool if you know how to get around.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife Ana Gurgel is a huge backbone to the place we are at, where she created all the means and space for me to be able to create, dream and execute all aspects of the Notomoto Brand without letting my life fall apart.
