We had the good fortune of connecting with Ikorma and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ikorma, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Coming from a Artistic house, my Dad was my mentor. Since I was born, the brush and the paintings are just an extension of me. He taught me all the basics, but he didn’t himself pursue the artistic career until later in life by my side. We créate Ikorma a Father and Son Art Duo.
Both of my grandparents also were artists, working from oil painting to wood crafting. They also have a lot to do with the fact that I am an artist nowdays.
I have always felt the need to create universes. The oldest we have is from when I was 8 years old
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Ikorma is born almost a decade ago when my Dad and I decided to start making art together.
For me, seeing all my life my Dad, been such an incredible artist, but not showcasing his work, kind of make me angry. So I started presenting him different ideas to try to make him work with me ( took me like 2 years before I came up with something he really enjoy)
He took my marker sketch and made it into an artwork. That was the first ikorma been born.
Now is more than 10 years working together, and I couldn’t be happier to work with a better partner.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For me, I love driving around La. such different neighborhoods, cultures and nature.
Will definitely go to Santa Monica to do some mural on the beach and check the skating pool.
Also going hiking to the griffings observatory, love it. Getting there in the sunset is just magical!
And because I dont eat meat, La is such an incredible vegetarian town, almost everywhere you go incredible vegetarian food, I just love this.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family. Always supporting my crazy creativity. From my Dad and Mom, to my two brothers and now days my wife. I am blessed to be surrounded by such incredible beings.
