We had the good fortune of connecting with Ilona Selina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ilona, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My goal was to build an agency that brands genuinly felt confident partnering with long-term. I wanted to offer a service that clients truly valued and brought them results. I wanted to move away from the traditional office environment and allow my team to work remotely from anywhere in the world, fueling their work with new ideas and perspectives that they collect outside the office or during their travels. Our team is intentionally small, highly skilled and very focused. We never take on more than 10 clients at a time, so we can provide personalized attention to every brand we work with. We are obsessed with what we do and strive to make the client feel like we are part of their team.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Route Marketing is a female founded agency taking an authentic approach to Influencer Relations, Social Media Management, Strategy and Consulting. We believe that one route does not fit all, taking a tailored approach with every brand and creator we work with. We work with luxury brands and talent across verticals in hospitality, art, beauty, fashion, wellness, and lifestyle to deliver performance-driven results. We pride ourselves on our core values, which is to always deliver our best work. We value openness, fairness, hard work and excellence. We strive to make our clients feel comfortable, heard, respected and supported.

And last but not least…something that definitely sets us apart is an authentic, no bullshit, approach – where every creative solution is tailored to our client’s needs, from budget to strategy to implementation.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since my team works remotely, we could tell you about all corners of the world. But since I am based in London, I will share a few of my favorite spots there. Sunday brunch would be spent in Notting Hill, stopping by Sunday in Brooklyn for their delicious pancakes, followed by a walk down Portobello Road to explore the weekend food-market. For dinner on the weekends, we’d go to a buzzy members club like the newly opened TwentyTwo or stop by for live music at The Maine. After a busy work-day at women’s co-working space Allbright Mayfair, we would stroll around Bond Street and stop by for Happy Hour at Chiltern Firehouse, or Cecconi’s. If it’s a hot day, checking out Soho House 180 Strand’s rooftop pool and view is a must.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are far too many resources, organizations and people that I would like to mention, that have helped Route Marketing grow into what it is today. However, one person – a peer, and former NYU student – stands out in particular. Our trusted digital consultant at Route Marketing and overall marketing-wizz, Riana Chen. She’s a multi-talent that has worked with global brands like Oliver People’s and now heads marketing at luxury brand, Aesop. She’s been a treasured addition to our team and an invaluable asset to the brands she’s working with.
