We had the good fortune of connecting with Indigo Cowherd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Indigo, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is an essential ingredient for any artist. If you’re in the visual arts, something as small as putting something out on social media is a risk, because you lose control of the narrative as soon as you share it.
Pursuing art is also a risk. It’s rare to find people who can work as full-time artists. I’ve decided to pursue art as my side hustle/passion, and I think there’s a risk in that. But at the end of the day, sometimes you just have to make rapid choices, and risk is inevitable.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I guess I would consider myself a multimedia artist. I mainly work in photography and illustration.
Drawing has always been my first love because I could create the world and creatures that I imagined in my head.
Photography, on the other hand, has been a medium where I can better understand the world around me. I’ve always had a bit of a hard time relating to people and the world around me, so photography has allowed me to work on my communication and interpersonal relationships with people.
I like capturing the world and being able to express how I see it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite spots in Los Angeles are:
The Egyptian Theater in Hollywood, or The Aero in Santa Monica. Both play old movies, sometimes on actual film reels.
I also love the Museum of Jurassic Technology in Culver City, which is a fun, odd adventure.
Scopa Italian Roots in Venice Beach is a great place for family-style dinner or cocktails [they have awesome mocktails too, which is nice for me as someone who does not drink].
The Thursday Night Market at Yamashiro Mountain Garden is a wonderful place to go check out the vibrancy that LA has to offer in the summertime. There’s also a stunning view, as it’s located in the Hollywood Hills.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents who have always loved and supported me, along with my sisters, my lovely boyfriend, and my friends. Thank you to Dom Wordlaw for putting me on The Shoutout too!
