We had the good fortune of connecting with Iris Svis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Iris, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I think risk taking is a crucial part of everything I do in life, not just professionally, but also personally. I believe it to be an important component of success. Sometimes taking a leap without knowing if there is a safety net down there is scary, but also can be rewarding. That’s why I want to bring up a current risk taking of mine. Great group of people I would like to work with on an upcoming project that is TV series called Mission Critical. As of now, we have Mike Kiely and Jane Crossby, as writers and Caitlin Brown as Director of Photography, as well as Artur Lago-V. and myself as producers on the show. Without any expectation we jump into this adventure because we love movie making and hoping it will lead to more opportunities, relationships and collaborations. I have a good feeling about this one!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been a film producer and a moviemaker for over 10 years now. When it comes to bringing the right people on board for each specific project, that’s where I come in. It’s all about the right fit, managing
personalities, styles, and skills. Early on, I identify what a project needs and cater to its specific
needs. Is it an action or are we showcasing lots of prosthetics and so on and so forth? At the end
of the day, the work of the team is a reflection of my work and I value each and every person I
work with and making sure they have everything they need to showcase their best work.
And no, it’s never easy, easy is boring ad I don’t want it to be easy. My team is all about people, we are like big fun family and every challenge we face is discussed amongst us and we make a decision together. I listen to my teamsters, they always have good points. The biggest lesson I’ve learned, sometimes you just have to seat back and listen.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Haha, it’s funny how manifestation works. My dear friend will be visiting me from New York in less then 3 weeks. And, I am really stressing out, knowing how much sightseeing they have in New York, but I know we have some fun places too. So, I was thinking Getty Villa, I know a lot of people go to The Getty, but my favorite is the villa, there is something magical about that place. Then Rosenthal Wine Bar & Patio, of course, for the life music and, well, wine. I am thinking Balboa Island, at some point, cause that’s just pretty. I also think she’ll like Manhattan beach and since we are already there, why not get a table with the view at The Strand House. So many places to see, oh man, ok, she also mentioned she wanted to go to Joshua Tree and that’s a lovely place to see for sure, if we have time maybe Lake Arrowhead would be another good one to visit. As far as food goes, we have so many good places to choose from I would have to wait and see what she is in a mood for, but my personal favorite is Colapasta in Santa Monica, shout out to Stefano. As soon as i finish this interview I am heading out there for a nice treat. So, yeah, a lot to do and see!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely, life is all about support, encouragement and mentorship. So huge shout out to my awesome team at C&C Productions: Keyaira Augustus, Julian Jackson, Artur Lago-V. and Nicholas D. Monteilh. Without these awesome peeps I would be doing paralegal work right now instead of filmmaking. So, thanks to my amazing team for encouraging and inspiring!
