We had the good fortune of connecting with Isabel Abramyan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isabel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Kristine Demirchyan and I, Isabel Abramyan, are both seasoned professionals; Kristine as a physical therapist and myself as an insurance agent, each running successful businesses. Our shared vision for starting Jewel City United stemmed from a desire to enrich and support the development of youth soccer, aiming to foster their social, community, academic, and athletic skills. Despite the challenges of operating in a predominantly male-dominated industry, we persevered, overcoming numerous obstacles to establish a thriving non-profit organization. Today, Jewel City United is home to 350 local youth, a testament to our dedication and the positive impact we strive to make in our community.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Our journey with Jewel City United began with skepticism from many who doubted that two moms could successfully create a thriving soccer academy. Kristine and I were determined to prove them wrong, aiming not only to foster a positive environment but also to ensure that kids excelled in soccer while learning valuable life lessons.

Building Jewel City United hasn’t been a walk in the park. It’s been a testament to our relentless hard work, unwavering consistency, and a refusal to give up. Whenever faced with challenges, whether it was mastering unfamiliar tasks or overcoming doubts, we embraced a mindset of exploration and learning. From handling marketing strategies to the meticulous details of ironing uniforms and managing team registrations, we’ve been involved in every aspect of running the club, from A to Z.

Through this journey, we’ve learned invaluable lessons. Staying focused and consistent has been crucial. Most importantly, we’ve learned never to let anyone dictate what we can or cannot achieve. Our determination has driven us forward, shaping Jewel City United into more than just a soccer academy—it’s a testament to what passionate individuals can achieve against all odds.

Our story isn’t just about soccer; it’s about breaking barriers, proving stereotypes wrong, and creating a supportive community where children thrive both on and off the field. We hope our journey inspires others to pursue their dreams with the same vigor and belief in themselves.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely! We would love to give a shoutout to our wonderful parents, coaches, and community who have been instrumental in my journey. Without the support of Hoover High School, Toll Middle School, and the City of Glendale for providing us with field space, we wouldn’t have been able to create this safe and exciting space for our kids. Their efforts, support, mentorship, love, and encouragement have made a significant impact and helped us achieve where we are today.

Additionally, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our sponsors. Without their contributions, we would not be able to provide affordable programs and, in some cases, scholarships to low-income families and single-parent families. Their generosity plays a crucial role in making our initiatives accessible and impactful for our community.
