Meet Israel McCloud | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Israel McCloud and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Israel, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue an art career because of my fascination with the possibility of taking something from my imagination and bringing it to life. To think that an idea once existing only in my mind can now be made tangible—as if pulled from the ether—is magic to me. I also attribute my natural inclination toward art to a family lineage of artists that stretches far back. Watching my father, uncle, aunt, and cousins all make a living by stretching the imagination of the collective consciousness not only showed me that it’s possible, but also that it’s my responsibility to contribute my own unique perspective on life to the world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a reflection of the stories, experiences and moments that have made me who I am today, I explore ideas and philosophies that I have through paintings and love to see how others perceive them on there own.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend come to visit for the week I’d make sure to take them to Hauser & wirth in arts district, and my favorite sushi spot, Yanomi hand roll right across the street. I’d also make sure I take them on a hike at Eaton canyon at some point and we’d have to go to my favorite burger joint, Low Boy. If they love the beach i would take them to malibu. For coffee and breakfast we would go to Maru in arts district and cafe telegrama in Melrose Hill.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My cousin and mentor @hugomccloudstudio who has not only showed me everything he knows about how to have a successful career in the art industry, but also took me in as his studio assistant so I can have a hands on approach on what he does.
