Meet Izzy T Recording Artist | Alt Pop/Rock artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Izzy T Recording Artist and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Izzy T, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Firstly, as an independent artist, you have to invest so much of your own money into your career. That itself is a huge risk, because your parents, friends and everyone around youis growing up, having holidays, saving for their first homes etc, meanwhile you’re saving for studio time and music videos!
To be honest, in my mind its never been a risk, its just been an investment.
If you want to be taken seriously, you’ve got to have a decent looking product. This is everything from the production of my music, how the songs are mixed/mastered, how i’m represented in professional promo pictures, graphic design for single art work, EVERYTHING has got to look somewhat professional.
The real part thats a risk is how much time apart from loved ones you spend when you’re in a different city/country on the road, out calving your career. You miss so many weddings, birthdays, gatherings, and just hope that they understand if you have to miss them!
Being an artist, when you’re unsigned, you have to in a way create the illusion of having a big team, until you actually DO have some kind of team.
If you create the buzz yourself, people will come to you, and this year that has happened more than ever.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So my music is really a cocktail of crunchy guitar riffs, electronic beats, and powerful, catchy choruses. I would describe it was Alternative Pop/Rock, with extra spice!
I listened to everything from Chris Cornell to Christina Aguilera growing up, so vocals play a big part in my music, as I just stack and stack and stack vocals until it just sounds epic and BIG.
Some people say “less is more”, but i prefer “the bigger the better”.
I think what sets me apart from others is theres a few blues licks when i sing, then there will be a trap beat under my voice, with rock guitars, so people are like, “what!”. I feel its my strength, but being different can also a pain in the arse, as people and companies like to pigeon hole you, so its easy for them to work with genres, but i drive in and out of 5 genres at the same time!
What I want people to know about my story, is that, i’ve worked for everything I have, and appreciate ANYONE who has been a part of my journey, and cheered me on.
What i’ve learned, is that, even if someone is sat on a big chair at a desk wearing a nice suit, or is coming across as the “big bollocks” producer, always listen to your gut. Just because someone seems more expeienced, or older, doesn’t make them right about everything, especially your music.
There are definitely times where i sit and think, “damn, i really wished i’d just listened to my own voice”, instead of searching for some kind of validation from other people, who are just winging it in the music industry!
You will know when someone has the best intentions for you and your music, when you feel GOOD talking to them, and they deliver what they say.
Knowledge is power, gather knowledge, and you will be unstoppable. The music business, is a music BUSINESS, the sooner we cotton on to that fact, the better we will work.
I have shows in the U.S, One at The Viper Room 0ct 21st, and Molly Malones 17th September!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well my home city Hull isn’t THAT glamerous! But it can be a lot of fun and a damn cheap night out if you want to go and get drunk! When i’m in London I love going to the Blues Kitchen in Camden, its definitely one of my favourite hang places. Camdens just got everything

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would first and foremost shout out to my family! It’s only right as they have been the ones from the start to help me get to where I am today. My parents at one point said, “are you sure you want to do this?”, when they saw how much i was investing personally and financially, but they know it’s all i’ve wanted to do since being a child, and that i’m not built for anything else! So they’ve continued to support throughout my journey. I think THE moment that they realised my music was picking up was when they came to watch me perform at Leeds Pride infront of 5k people. Apparently my dad had tears rolling down his face haha!
Also my partner Quentin Roelandt, hes my right hand man on stage, MD of my backing band, guitarist of my band, producer and co writer for my songs. One thing that can really be a turning point for your career is having the best live show you can possibly have. once Quentin started coming up with arrangements for the set, the Izzy T “gig” turned into the Izzy T SHOW.
I’d also have to shout out to giulio & ivan who play in my band for the live shows, any vocal coach i’ve had, and of course, my die hard Izzy T supporters! I hate to use the term “fans” as its so intimidating. I call them, “team”.
