We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Brady and Matthew Zeko and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jack Brady and Matthew Zeko, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
We both are risk averse people in general, so taking risks is something that both of us understand that we need to continue to work on, considering how important it is within the music industry as a whole. We both have already taken the risk of pursuing a career in music together and we know risks can pay great dividends for people in entertainment and music. It’s helped us form connections, meet new people and address some of the weaknesses we know we have, while pushing us to be better musicians as a whole. We know that true success comes by failing as much as you can, and understanding that the only way that you can truly become the best version of what you want to be is by failing throughout the journey thousands of times. And the best way to do that is by continuing to take chances as a group.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Truthfully, we are most proud of the work we have put in as a group to get to where we are today. Our duo started as a very small idea during the beginning of quarantine, honestly it felt somewhat like a joke at first since we were both back home in San Diego and had nothing to do. However through the process of writing a song a day for an entire summer we both realized that this was something we actually wanted to do together, and when we look back its astonishing how far we have come in such a short amount of time. It certainly wasn’t something that was easy, we started off having no idea about basically anything except the power that music can have and we wanted to find our own version of that. As we created more and more we made small breakthroughs and stumbled quite a bit but with every pitfall our love for creating always kept us coming back for more. The biggest lesson we have learned is that consistency is key. It’s the single most important thing for harnessing your skills and getting better and it’s the main focus of our group. The biggest thing we want the world to know about us is that we love what we do and we really enjoy getting to do it together. We have been friends since middle school, which is 10+ years and we want that deep connection that we have to shine through in the music that we make.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Jack – I only moved to LA recently, just over a year ago so I’m not quite sure I am the best person to ask this question however there are a few places I would take someone, especially if it was their first time here. Sports has always been something that is very important to me and my life so I would definitely want to take them to a game, either lakers, dodgers or chargers depending on the season. As for food, if I’m being honest, pretty much every food place that I have eaten since I’ve been here, that I have really liked has been a recommendation from friends, specifically a very close friend of mine grey, who has lived here all their life. I would probably just have grey help me pick out the best food places to go since I have never been let down once by a recommendation of theirs. I also love Santa Monica, I think the nightlife there is great and the beaches are some of LA’s best, so I would love to take this person there for a few days during their trip.
Matt – The good thing is LA is one of the most fun cities in the world. I’d start at the ocean for morning jogs in Santa Monica along the beach. The weather is perfect in the summer and there is so many fun spots near the Pier. Of course, this is perfect to play beach volleyball, teq ball or even just to jump in the ocean. You can spend all day at the beach. I’d love to hit Brentwood and go to Jon and Vinny’s or AOC which are two of my favorite food places. You can’t possibly do LA without Malibu so definitely hit some viewpoints and the Sand Dune along PCH up north past Little Dune. After a few days, we can go more towards Beverly Hills and hang out there. Nate N Als is the best Jewish Deli spot, and it’s walking distance from Rodeo Drive. Of course, it isn’t LA without the Lakers so we would definitely be heading downtown to watch the Purple and Gold. Towards the end of the week, we can get more inland in West Hollywood and Hollywood. Griffith Park has a few of my favorite hikes up to summit of Mount Hollywood, and of course the Observatory is something to be seen. As far as nightlife, if you’ve never been to the Greek Theater or the Hollywood Bowl, both are such amazing places to see shows. And you can’t go wrong with bars in WeHo or Hollywood. A few of my favorites are Mama Shelter and E.P. and L.P. for a more fancy vibe.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Jack – This is always difficult for me to narrow down because there are so many people within my life that I feel deserve credit for allowing me to be where I am. I am incredibly lucky to have friends and family that all care about me as a person and support what I want to do with my life. I think the biggest shoutout I can give would be to my parents and my brother. My parents raised me to believe that the most important part of life is the good you put in it, and I try and do that with music as much as I can. My brother is my best friend and biggest inspiration and I know I wouldn’t where I am without him. He continues to challenge me when I need to be challenged, and support me to the ends of the earth. I couldn’t be more thankful for him.
Matt – I think we are all creatures of our support system, and I cannot think my parents, family and friends enough for everything they have done for me.
