We had the good fortune of connecting with Jackie Primrose Monahan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jackie Primrose, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I didn’t pursue comedy it pursued me. I was voted the Funniest girl in High school. I was asked to join a comedy group in Providence Ri called The Pork Chop Lounge. I later moved to NYC and my then-wife told me I had to try stand-up. I figured I would do it once and that would be it but I was hooked immediately.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The lessons I have learned along the way are to continuously expand my consciousness. Comedy blended with life-affirming solutions whether subversive or not is so satisfying. I am proud of the Humanitarian Award I received with Madeleine Olnek for bringing joy to the world with Wild Nights With Emily. What I would want the world to know is to be fearless with our goodness.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Self Realization center in Santa Monica is one of my favorite places on the planet., It was there that I made the decision to move to LA. The Comedy Store is always a guaranteed good time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Writer-Director Madeleine Olnek. changed my life. She cast me in Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks same which premiered at Sundance. Madeleine’s style of filmmaking made me fall in love with acting. The Foxy Merkins premiered at Sundance and was nominated for an Independent Spirit award. Wild Night’s With Emily premiered at SXSW it starred Molly Shannon as Emily Dickenson. I played her sister Lavinia Dickenson. The film is beautiful, historical, and hysterical.
