We had the good fortune of connecting with Jackson Bloore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jackson, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
On May 21, 2021, at 70 years old, my mother passed away. She struggled with her health for most of her life despite many warnings from friends, family, and doctors. She dealt with high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep apnea, anxiety, depression, and even required a defibrillator that restarted her heart 17 times.
After battling a host of health problems, she was diagnosed with cancer and eventually lost her fight, devastating me and my family. Despite her struggles, my mom was my rock, always showing kindness, compassion, and love until her final days. She was a wonderful mother to me and my sisters, a loving wife to my father, and a devoted sister.
I’d give anything for more time with her, but despite reason, logic, and even pleading, I couldn’t save her. Now, all I can do is prevent as many people as possible from suffering the way she did—and the way my family has.
In her final days, she told me, “Jackson, I want you to learn from my mistakes.” I have. And now, I want to help others do the same.
What’s interesting is that my father was the opposite of my mother in many ways. At just 5 years old, my dad bought me my first Hulkamania weight set (yes, I have the pictures to prove it). As a Chicago Police Officer, he worked out daily, ate healthy, and made fitness a priority.
I firmly believe life isn’t happening to us—it’s happening for us. And I believe God put them both in my life so I could experience and learn from both extremes. Because of my dad, I lift weights, eat well, and take care of my health. And because of my mom, I have a deep compassion for those who struggle.
I wouldn’t be who I am without both of them. More importantly, I wouldn’t be as capable or qualified as a coach without both of them. It’s this upbringing that ignited the fire and desire to help others with their health and fitness.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a former computer nerd turned internationally published fitness model, coach, and cupcake connoisseur. Oddy, as a fitness professional I have degrees in both computer science and economics with honors.
My journey started when I began modeling for Men’s Health, Muscle & Fitness, and others, all while working as a software engineer at a major consulting firm. One day, while writing a technical architecture document, I had a moment of clarity. My life felt empty, like Peter from “Office Space.” I was spending the best years of my life on projects I had little interest in, for a company I didn’t care about, with no real positive impact on the world.
I couldn’t do it anymore. So I quit and moved to San Francisco to push myself out of my comfort zone. I knew nobody there, but I wanted a fresh start, away from distractions, with no safety net, and believed San Francisco’s tech scene was the perfect place to start a personal training business. After all, my colleagues in tech had always been fascinated by my physique and wanted to train with me.
It wasn’t easy. For a year, I struggled to make any real progress. But when my roommate moved out and I couldn’t pay rent, I had no choice but to make things happen. Within a week, I signed my first two clients, and in just 7 months, I was earning $10K a month.
After a few years, I built that into a $150K/year business, training some of the brightest minds in tech, entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists in San Francisco.
Eventually, I was named San Francisco’s “Best Trainer for Abs,” which marked the turning point for taking my business online. Giving up a $150K/year business wasn’t easy, but I took the leap.
After two years, seven business coaches, and $70,999.93 in credit card debt, I was ready to give up. But three close friends and former clients convinced me to give it just three more months. Two months later, I hit my biggest month ever—$19K in sales—and haven’t looked back since. I paid that debt off in just 14 months.
My claim to fame is helping regular people go from no-pack to six-pack in record time without extreme diets, endless cardio, or working out every day. I’ve helped clients lose as much as 40 pounds in 16 weeks, gain 11 pounds of muscle in the same period, and even helped three clients lose over 100 pounds in under a year. My client Robyn lost 102 pounds in 11 months and another, Conor, dropped 125 pounds in just 12 months.
My best-selling book, 7 Secrets for Chiseled Abs, reached the #1 spot on Amazon in the Ab Workouts category and has helped thousands lose fat, gain muscle, and build the body they’ve always wanted. As a coach on Tonal, I’ve brought my award-winning workouts and no-BS approach to educate, motivate, and inspire millions to become their strongest selves.
What I’m most proud of, though, is my incredible clients. Transforming your body is hard work. As much as I wish I could do the workouts and follow the diet for them, I can’t. But they execute, give it their all, and achieve amazing results. They are the ones who deserve the accolades, the confidence, and the transformation credit.
One of the best business lessons I ever learned came from Ramit Sethi. He told me that my business wasn’t about me—it was about my clients. So, I stopped focusing on myself and shifted the spotlight to my clients. It was a game-changer.
Now, we have 95+ documented success stories on YouTube, 100+ five-star reviews on Trustpilot, 100+ before-and-after photos, and hundreds of messages from clients. We call them “real people with real results in record time,” and it’s made a massive difference in attracting new clients.
The endless desire to help my clients is what wakes me up in the morning, drives me to keep going, and what I’m most proud of.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d start with a workout at The Mecca, Gold’s Gym, in Venice. Hang out at the original Muscle Beach in Santa Monica during the day to work on our tan, and do dinner at Meat on Ocean also in Santa Monica to get our protein in.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Besides my parents, here are a few noteworthy credits that helped me get where I am:
The book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho for helping me believe in dreams.
Greg Plitt for giving me the confidence to actually chase my dreams.
Ramit Sethi for giving me the systems to turn those dreams into a reality.
Les Brown for inspiring me during tough times.
My wife, Anya Ostry, for supporting me when I broke, down on my luck, and just getting started in fitness.
Her parents for believing me when I said I’d marry their daughter as soon as my business took off.
All the great trainers, coaches, and support staff including the owners Billy & Mike at DIAKADI Body in San Francisco where I started my coaching career.
Tonal for taking a chance on me.
Lastly, Jon Goodman for educating me and showing me honesty, integrity and fitness can all work well together.
