Meet Jackson Sherry | Filmmaker, Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jackson Sherry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jackson, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
Choosing art. I grew up watching both of my parents struggle to make art AND a living, so it just turned me off to the whole idea. I tried a lot of things. I was an engineer in the Navy and I spent a lot of time pursuing things that didn’t really feed me. I made the decision to let my creative side take over during the pandemic and film is what stuck.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like to leave a lot of mystery in what I make. Too often in today’s art/entertainment world we are told the entire story, what to think, how to view the characters. I like to let the audience figure that out for themselves. I have not had the easiest road this far. I broke my neck in 2016 and have been partially paralyzed for the past eight years. This has given me a unique lens on the world that transfers over to my art. I’ve been able to see that my physical ability in no way affects my technical ability. Just because I’m not operating the camera, doesn’t mean I have no input on the final result. I want people to see me for what I am and what I’ve accomplished, not what I’ve been through.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I wouldn’t say I have a favorite spot. I prefer to get out of town and away from the crowds. The desert never disappoints.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m sure I can’t name enough, but my parents and my girlfriend, Katie, have had a huge impact on my success so far.
