We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacob Abraham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacob, how do you think about risk?
It’s been my stage dive into the unknown. Rather than following a more conventional career path, I learned how to play guitar, mostly self-taught, and formed Copper Planet. Just me, my guitar, and a whole lotta heart. It was a leap of faith, but once Copper Planet started getting buzz, my folks suddenly said, “Whoa, this music thing’s legit!”

The risk powers my passion. Going into a career of music is a gamble, but I’ve been fortunate to play at some major events and create chart-topping songs. So, it’s without question, a risk I’m glad I took.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a singer, guitarist, and audio engineer who’s all about making progressive metal music with my band, Copper Planet. We’re a tight-knit trio, and together we’re a force to be reckoned with. Our signature style is pop-style choruses colliding head-on with heavy metal breakdowns.

I’ve always been into tech stuff, and when I mashed that up with my love for music, I decided to get into audio engineering as well as being a musician. I ended up working with some big names like Sheila E, Cypress Hill, The Wailers, Evan Rachel Wood, and even The Cover-ups (those Green Day legends) as a live audio engineer at the Bourbon Room.

Getting to where I am today has taken a lot of hard work. Learning the nitty-gritty of music-making and diving deep into audio engineering was a rollercoaster ride. There were times when I felt like I was going nowhere, but I learned that hustling day in and day out was the real secret to success.

Everyone’s got their rhythm – some hit the jackpot quicker than others. But the name of the game is working persistently. Patience is gold, bouncing back from setbacks is crucial, and embracing your own journey is the name of the game.

When it comes to me and Copper Planet, we’re all about testing the limits of what music can be. We’ve performed and won over 100 band competitions across India, including Ragam (Powered by State Bank of India), Dhwani by Vodafone, and Echoes by Central Bank of India. We’ve also shared the stage with industry giants like Thakara, Masala Coffee, Job Kurian, Cut a Vibe, and Avial.

Long story short, I’m the tech-obsessed music fanatic who’s found the sweet spot where beats meet bytes. And through the ups and downs, I’ve figured out that the journey is where the real magic happens.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout time! I’ve got a big gratitude bomb to drop, and it’s all for Joseph Kattampallil. This guy? He’s more than a mentor; he’s my partner-in-crime and my best bud. Joseph brought me into the world of live audio engineering, opening up a whole new chapter in my life.

But that’s not all. Hold on to your hat, because Joseph’s also the one who showed me the way to the Music Ministry at Blessed Sacrament Church in Hollywood. And let me tell you, that was a game-changer. It’s like my life did a 180-degree spin thanks to him.

So, Joseph, if you’re tuning in, here’s your moment in the spotlight. You’re the unsung hero in my story, the one who’s shaped my journey in ways I can’t even put into words. Thanks for being the ultimate mentor, the best friend a musician could ask for, and the guide who led me to some of the most transformative experiences of my life. This shoutout’s for you! 🎸🎤🙌
