We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacob Gonzales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacob, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Wanting to create an environment that I enjoyed, without having to drive to Los Angeles. At the time I was living in Ventura County, and there were no dark electronic clubs in the area.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Most of adult life I have had a 9-5 in graphic design and print production. The hours and corporate culture drove me to quitting and following my dreams in music and mma.

I transitioned to DJing, running Club Fallout, and teaching fight-based classes. It definitely is a grind, but it was my grind. I have always been a driven person, at my 9-5s I would whatever it takes to get the job or project done. But those long hours and loyalty over time did not have the same satisfaction.

But the energy and creativity I injected into my personal business projects seemed different. Unfortunately, as the years went on, I found myself absorbed in the toxic hustle culture that has become trendy today. I find this a prolific symptom of late stage capitalism.

I can only atone to my success through three words, trial, error, and love. If I did not love the music and subcultures that I dabble in, I do not think I would continuing doing it today. But also, learning from mistakes, taking risks and noting what works. Being able to learn from failures is the pathway to success. I did not have any investors or mentors, just will power and passion.

Fallout was always for the culture from the very beginning. The amount of time and energy to barely pay for the talent and a couple bucks for myself was fine by me. But learning how to accommodate your customer base and your talent is what helped me evolve to where I am today. Walking away with everyone getting paid and money in my pocket has been a dream come true. But that payday has only come due to the countless hours of dedication that nobody sees.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think this depends on the person. Los Angeles is famous for being able to provide a wide variety of entertainment. We have eateries and tourism of Hollywood, the foothill hiking of Griffith Park, the ocean breeze of the coastal cities to the grit of Downtown.

Being an international city, we have international food. From ramen to tacos, there are high end restaurants and authentic hole in the walls. So I think it depends on the person and their preferences. Poolside cocktails, or street tacos? This is Los Angeles, so both.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I do not have a single person or source that I can point to as inspiration to my success. But, I absolutely could not do this without my crew. Even though it may be simple things such as running errands or hauling equipment, their help is an integral part to being successful. I shout out the fallout crew for every drop of support they have given.
