We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacqueline Rumohr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacqueline, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my business in 2018 as a direct result of the number of over 30 years spent in corporate design jobs that left me feeling undervalued and creatively stifled. I needed to create something for myself that both fed my creative spirit and had a an impact on the overabundance of waste in the fashion industry. I decided to use commodities that were easily available from either personal closets or donation centers.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Gritti Glamouri Couturi is a collection of “one of a kind” upcycled garments. We take basic “menswear” staples and transform them into wearable art. Our unique creative approach is based on over 30 years of apparel industry know how and technique. We hand dye, bead and embellish each style with its own unique style number embroidered as a collectors item. To wear a Gritti Glamouri Couturi style is a visceral and exciting experience.

We offer pants, shorts, shirts and jackets in our special statement style. Using discarded garments that have been through the “production” process is our way of combatting the over abundance of wasted clothing and stopping them before they end up in landfills.

We value our customers and have found them by hitting the road and making new friends that understand and appreciate Gritti Glamouri Coutui style. Our experience has been that there is an immediate attraction to the product and its creativity upon the first site of the collection.

Owning and running a small “one of a kind” bespoke business is challenging but the way in which each style is made and some of the loving hands that help make it all worth while. We love to work with only local and US based businesses or individuals. Everyone who touches the collection with their individual talents are always so excited to work on something so unique and different.

Along with the normal visibility challenges, we have hit the ground running and have tried to get more eyeballs on our fabulous line by way of social media, emailing and being seen in the product.

“Where did you get those pants?” We love hearing that and hope to be able to offer our collection to more people.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow, that’s a great question. I recently returned from a wonderful 2 weeks in Europe. We came back appreciating LA even more. We were expecting to eat really well, for example, in Italy. Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed and couldn’t wait to get back to LA for all the amazing restaurants we have here.

Taking an out of town friend would start with a view on the rooftop of the Proper Downtown LA @ Cara Cara. A great place to have a snack and drink overlooking our beautiful city from many angles.

My all time favorite place to dine and have the most amazing cocktails is Cafe Stella in Silverlake, I also recently got engaged there. It’s a little slice of Paris nestled in the corner at Sunset Junction.

I would take them to the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena along with a tour of the Gamble House around the corner.
Depending on the week, a visit to the Rose Bowl Flea market is also a must.

Our beaches are some of the best in the country and they are FREE 🙂 From Malibu to Laguna Beach, possibly a beach tour would be fun.

What would a week in LA be without a  little retail therapy. Some of the many perks of a sunny mild climate are the fabulous outdoor malls and beautiful streets for shopping year round. In particular Abbot Kinney in Venice is a must for people watching, dining and shopping.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to send a shoutout to all of the people that I have worked with in my design jobs. I have met some incredibly talented individuals that were collaborative, supportive and good people. The list is not long but their input was noteworthy. Some of the individuals are: David Dart, Christopher Webb, Anne Cole, Nathan Tilleman and Caroline Gilchrist.
