Meet Jahlil Minter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jahlil Minter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jahlil, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is my Faith and complete trust in God. With God anything is possible. Having my own brand and business started as a dream in high school, after taking a business marketing class. Then after putting my trust in God, his timing and his purpose for me I’m here living out a long time dream of mine. No matter what success may come my way or what I may achieve I owe all Glory and Praise to God. Proverbs 3:6 says In all thy ways acknowledge him. And he shall direct thy paths.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Sneaker cleaning and restoration is a passion of mine. I’ve always been a sneaker head and always cleaned and worked on my own sneakers. But now, not only is it passion, it’s passion with a purpose. Faith meets craftsmanship. With my platform I’m excited to get the opportunity to use my craft to hopefully be a blessing to someone and also tell anyone and everyone about the Goodness of the Lord.
This process has not been easy at all. There is a lot of work that has to be done behind the scenes of starting a business. My biggest obstacle has been fear of failure. Once I took the leap of faith it’s like it felt natural . I’ve learned along the way that being the owner of a business/brand takes time and patience. It’s a process just in cleaning/restoring a shoe. Step by step until you get to the end result or finished product. I’m still growing in the business field and in my faith. I’m not where I used to be but I’m still far from my destination. He (God) is not done with me yet.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Richmond, Ky is a small city but it’s growing. Most of my close friends are from Richmond or live in surrounding areas so they are all familiar. But I’m almost willing to bet that if you ask someone from Richmond they would most definitely recommend stopping by Madison Gardens Bar & Grill! In my opinion some of the best wings in the city! There may not be a wide variety of big things to do in Richmond but what a lot of people don’t know is that there is plenty of history here. Some of the parks and buildings here hold a lot of history. Even downtown Richmond is historic in many ways. So if you aren’t familiar with Richmond it’s pretty interesting to find the facts and history of this small city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost All Glory To God. But I also want to thank a good friend of mine, James Tyler Mays and 5th Quarter Digital. I tossed my idea for my business and brand to him and he pushed me and believed in me enough to share some of his knowledge and skills and point me in the right direction. That’s the type of people you want in your corner. It’s honestly and blessing to have friends like that. I also want to thank my family. Especially my Dad. After sketching out my brand logo, I showed him and he told me to chase my dreams. That’s all I needed to hear. Family is a huge part of my life and no matter what I do, I can always count on their support and love through it all.
