We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Ebright and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jake, what do you want your legacy to be?
I would want to be remembered as someone who loved people and who lived as fully and as bravely as he could with the life he was given. No matter how bloodied and battered one emerges from life’s battles, what counts is having the courage to step foot in foreign arenas to fight with every ounce of energy one has. The arena I have chosen in this stage of my life is that of the entertainment industry. And though I’ve still got a long way to go in building my acting career, I am thoroughly enjoying each stage along the journey.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’d say two things that set me apart from other actors are my student-like approach to learning and the amount of fun I have acting. From years of dedication to academics in school, I’ve developed a strong passion for learning and an openness to new thoughts and ideas. That approach has helped me familiarize myself with a wide range of skill sets in the movie-making business, from acting and directing to producing and writing. In acting in particular, but also in all aspects of building a career, I’ve found it helps to approach new roles and obstacles with a fearless determination that, with enough work and creativity, one can achieve anything.

To me, movies are just about the coolest things there are. To act is to be able to connect to the beauty of those stories and characters–like Steve McQueen ripping towards the German-Swiss border on the back of a motorcycle or Victor Laszlo leading a rebellion in the barrooms of Casablanca–and that is a thrill that imbues my own life with rich energy and color. Simply put, acting is damn fun.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some bullets of favorite things I’ve experienced in LA so far:

– A show at the Hollywood Bowl (the Steve Martin and Martin Short 4th of July show with fireworks and orchestra was great)
– A movie at The New Beverly Cinema (makes you feel like you’re seeing a movie in the 1950s and snacks are crazy cheap)
– Burger and milkshake at Mel’s diner (bring quarters for the jukebox)
– Roller skating on the beach path from Venice to Santa Monica and beyond
– Clifton’s bar downtown (multiple levels and themes; a huge tree, and live music)
– Upright Citizens Brigade improv show
– Wisdom Tree trail hike

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The first people I would like to dedicate my shoutout to–partially because I’m afraid they wouldn’t let me come home if I didn’t–are my mom and dad. They’ve always been my brothers’ and my number one fans and supporters, and they are the best parents anyone could ever ask for. To steal from Abe Lincoln–anything I am or ever hope to be, I owe to them.

Another group I would like to thank are my teachers and friends at The Beverly Hills Playhouse. I started scene study classes there the first week I moved to LA, and the community I’ve found there–in addition to all that I’ve learned about acting–has meant so much to me these first three years of my acting journey.

Last but certainly not least, I would also like to give a shoutout to my managers (Eileen O’Farrell & Sam Retzky of Eileen O’Farrell Personal Management) and my agent (Maureen Rose of The Osbrink Agency). With their help and guidance, we’re working hard to open doorways of opportunity to continue building my acting career.
