We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamaine Fox and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamaine, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I am a firm believer in calculated risk taking. I am also a firm believer in prayer and accumulating positive energy before taking any risk. During the pandemic, I understand that many people took many risk to survive. I was laid off in 2020, then decided to step out on faith pursuing a career in the art of film and theater full time.

My passion for acting began in Musical Theater at a Stockton, CA high school. I became active in college theater and in church stage productions. I moved to Los Angeles at a young age and signed with two separate agencies right away. I decided to get a job shortly after, which required devotion and commitment. After experiencing the ruthless side of the entertainment industry, I began declining a number of auditions in order to complete work projects. All of my passion for the arts turned into resentment. Eventually I terminated my contract with my agent and completely committed to my 9 to 5 job.

Just before the pandemic in 2019, I had a revelation about my whole purpose for moving to Los Angeles, in which a full time corporate job wasn’t apart of that revelation. An opportunity presented itself, where I was in the position to sign with Brooks Talent Management. BTM was resourceful in assisting me with jump starting my acting career. Under this representation I was able to regain my passion for the arts and join the Screen Actor’s Guild. I studied a couple of character development courses, under the tutelage of Charles Tentindo in Long Beach, CA. I became determined to become an actor and even had thoughts of resigning from my position at work.

In 2020, I was laid off from my job due to the pandemic. While most of my colleagues were upset about the surprise layoffs, I approached it as a blessing in disguise. Since being laid off; I obtained two new agents, worked on countless productions as an actor or stand-in actor and have just about completed my screen write for a feature film.

A few months ago, I had a lucid dream and had awakened to something divine telling me to write it. I rolled over in bed to make note of the dream on my iPhone and started researching screen writing tips the very next day. I was told by many of my writing buddies to, “complete the script by all means.” I prayed about it and to this day my script has a premise of something unseen or unheard of.

In conclusion, my risk taking has created the beginning of new opportunities and I’ve accumulated a host of mentors along the way. I am a true testament to my advice. Always consider risk but not before thorough calculated research and much prayer.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a big fan of amazing free activities/spots in the Los Angeles area. My favorites include the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills, the hidden cove beaches of Laguna Beach, Hermosa Beach Pier, Balboa Island in New Port Beach, Naples Island/ Canals in Long Beach, The Pike and Village Downtown Long Beach, hiking in Eaton or Lewis Canyons/waterfalls. I also enjoy the many restaurants, cantina, pubs and sporting events, which are far too many to list.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to thank Jerome Brooks of Brooks Talent Management, Charles Tentindo of ‘My Acting Studio’ Long Beach and all those who poured into me by encouraging me during this risky journey. I absolutely want to thank my whole family, especially my mother who never lost faith when I relocated to Los Angeles to pursue my dream.
