Meet James Bacchi | Gallerist/Consultant/Collaborator

We had the good fortune of connecting with James Bacchi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
In my world, “giving up” has never been an option. I’ve always felt that it has such a defeatist connotation, and that’s not me. Conducting Art Business for more than 40 years has and I believe always will present challenges. Fortunately, when something is not working, I’m pretty quick to identify the problem, make necessary changes, and redirect my energy. Got to keep going. After all, what else would I do?

What should our readers know about your business?
Was it easy? Hell, no!
From New York to San Francisco and now Palm Springs, these forty plus years in the Art Business have brought me to a very special place. That being a state of sincere appreciation.
Whether at JAMES BACCHI CONTEMPORARY or just enjoying time at home, I look at the art on the walls and on come so many wonderful memories. Several of these works are by artists dating back to their first shows at ON THE WALL and JAGENDORF-BACCHI in New York. Others from ArtHaus’s twenty-five years in San Francisco. These inspired relationships are priceless and continue to be the cornerstone of my success. I’m so grateful these artists continue to believe in my vision. Thank you!
And here’s to all you longstanding and new collectors I so enjoy working with. Without all of you, there is no other means for success in this business. Thank you!
In best describing my brand, I site one collector whom I love and feel that he absolutely nails it in this Google Review.
“JAMES BACCHI CONTEMPORARY finally brought reliably interesting, ambitious, legitimate art to Palm Springs. A straight-up gallery with rational pricing, wry humor, and exhaustive knowledge for modern-art fans and collectors.” – John Lamm.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In looking at the current and next chapters of my story, my shoutout goes to former Supreme and best-selling author and interdisciplinary artist, Susaye Greene. Over the past few years, Susaye and I have been collaborating on several digital art projects while designing an arts and events space with a philanthropic/community-based component located in The Metaverse. Please stay tuned for the launch of META CONTEMPORARY.
As collaborators, Susaye and I are a perfect match when it comes to our levels of passion for what we are doing. We seamlessly motivate ourselves and each other. I believe these two factors fuel the optimum success of collaborations.
I honestly believe that Susaye has a stash of fairy dust that she’s been extremely generous with when it comes to sharing it. She is constantly on a quest for new information and learning. I love that! At this stage of the game what I am most grateful for is that Susaye has rekindled my sense of wonder and my optimism. That, and of course a first-class flight to The Metaverse!
