Meet James Coleman | Sports Skills Trainer & Talent Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with James Coleman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My father started me in sports at the earlier age of three and coached me until I was 12 years old. This impacted me heavily and help create my passion for sports. After my college playing career was over I decided that I didn’t want to leave sports alone. I started working for a youth sports company and fell in love which coaching which helped me realized I couldn’t walk away. After spending a handle full of years working for multiple companies in the sports industry it was time for me to start my own journey. Instead of working with a core group of people, I thought, “How could I work with everyone around the world.” JC Sports Training LLC was created.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My brand- JC Sports Training LLC was birth after being fired from my job, two weeks after my oldest daughter, Jolie was born. The company was upset that I wanted spend two weeks at home with her and the day I came back it was over. I knew then that I had to do things differently and vowed that I would make things work. That was in 2017, now in 2022 we are 5 years in business and have relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles, CA. We are a personal/group skills training company that helps athletes prepare for high level game play. We started off working with our neighbor’s 10 year old kid and now we have thousands of clients of all ages and performance levels, It wasn’t easy, but when you have passion/love what you do it doesn’t always feel like work and challenges are just part of the journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The beach is the first stop, I would take anyone who comes to visit me. I have a lot of friend from Chicago who live here too, so I usually hang out with them at their house or random spots on the West side, Hollywood or Weho. Taco stands are a must but honestly I am good with Chick Fil a lol. I spend a lot of time at Dodger Stadium, Crypto.com Area, and Bank of America Stadium for Dodgers, Lakers, Kings and LAFC games. LA has so much to offer, I still have a lot more to explore.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to recognize my father Wheeler G. Coleman. He was my favorite coach growing up and he really taught me all about hard work and dedication. It took me awhile to understand this concept growing up but I know it is instilled in me now.
