Meet James Foster | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with James Foster and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson my career has taught me is that the steps backward are just a repositioning for something better than you had planned. In short, growth takes a few setbacks.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
This is a tough one because the answer seems a bit intuitive to artist. We all have a path, narrative, or story to tell that can inspire and help others. In my art I explore my struggles with love, intimacy, sex, and monogamy. I’m not sure I’ve overcome any of those challenges but I understand them in a way that allows me to move through life knowing what I really want. Getting it is another story.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m the biggest fan of Venice beach. I’d take them to every restaurant on rose Ave, shopping on abbot Kenny, and hit as many museums as possible. This city has everything but my crew appreciation a chilled and cultural atmosphere. We are mostly artist so the night life is fun from time to time but brings with it the pressure to “be on” in this city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give a lot of love and gratitude to my friends who keep me inspired. I was talking just yesterday with Aviana and the pure root about how there is something about her fire that is keeping me warm. It’s that type or artistry that never burn out. She is always on even when she sees herself as not. She an example of never letting your art die.
