We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamilla Cagnolatti and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamilla, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I honestly didn’t have a thought process I just knew I wanted to be a designer after I left High School and pursued that dream every since.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My name is Jamilla Cagnolatti and my brand is VillaMoor, a custom designer clothing brand for every fashionable girl. My heart is always bursting with creativity and passion, and through my work I wish to pass that along. What sets me apart is my authenticity through my design process from me creating pieces through my imagination rather than sketching them out. Which allows the process to be more efficient due to my ability to skip a step that most designers have to take and the ideas and pieces are more protected because it is within my thoughts only rather than on a document that can be damaged or stolen. Also, growing up in two different environments, LA and Chicago, influenced my variety of aesthetics seen within my pieces since the two cities are completely different environment’s. I ‘m most excited about what the future will hold, if I keep working hard today Villamoor will be extremely successful. I got to where I am professionally by being consistent in my craft and learning/growing from mistakes. I even went back to school for fashion design to learn more about my field and to perfect my craft. This of course was no easy task I went through many hardships during this process that I would later overcome through my determination and hard work, however I am nowhere near where I want to be. The lesson I’ve learned along the way is to get yourself a team, since being by yourself can be overwhelming because it requires so much of your attention in many different areas. whereas if you were on a team you would be able to prioritize anything you believe is important. I would like the world to know my name firstly, but also to know my brand does not conform into societal trends since it is based off my creativity and originality,

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take her on the jet ski tour from long beach to Catalina Island we would eat at Bluewater grill, then have drinks at two bit circus. During the weekend trip well go to Catalina Sea Spa, hit the beach and the metropole market place and lastly do some wine tasting.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s a lot of people I would like to shout out that contribute a lot to my fashion career but I’m only going to mention a few. Starting with Malcolm Roberson, Adrene Ashford, and Chelsey Carter. Malcolm bought me my first sewing machine and I will never forget that because he really saw the potential I had and knew I can make it as a designer. Adrene took me in with only a little experience under my belt into the field as a costume designer assistant and gave me the opportunity to meet people to advance in my career. Chelsey was the biggest inspiration of them all she taught me the skills that I needed to be an successful designer and I will always appreciate her for giving me the skills that I needed.
