Meet Jane Swane | Artist and Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jane Swane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jane, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Music is more of a spiritual practice for me. Ever since I was 12 years old I realized I needed music in my life in more than just a casual way. Because of that, it is not a matter of whether to keep on going or to give up, it is just something that I do, and would like to do for as long as I can.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Ever since I was a kid, I had a book of different inventions, drawings and designs, mostly concerning mechanical, combative, and vehicular products. I loved creating and designing things that haven’t been done before, which is why I decided to pursue mechanical engineering after high school.
I think that mindset definitely carries on to my music. Learning how to produce was so important to me, because music PRODUCTION is like building the mechanics of the ideas, emotions, and stories that I want to bring to life. Me starting out with learning and falling in love with production could set me apart from others, because a lot of female artists don’t really produce. (But hopefully that will change soon!)
Overall, I would say it was not easy to get to where I am today. But I learned a lot of things along the way and still am learning something new every single day. That is very magical to me. It drives me and I feel very blessed.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend was visiting LA for a week, this would be the itinerary of where I’d take them.
There’s a spot in Malibu that is really secluded and magical and I would tell them that we gotta go at 4am and watch the sunrise.
I would take them to a hiking trail in the Santa Monica mountains that I lowkey wanna gatekeep lol.
I would take them to KTOWN for good Korean food and Korean karaoke.
Then I would take them climbing because climbing is awesome.
Then I would take them biking along the LA river or the boardwalk starting from Venice.
For food: Tacos from Angel’s, Avenue 26, or Leo’s. Korean food from KTOWN. Dim Sum from SGV. Persian food from Raffi’s place. Pine and Crane/The Window in Silverlake. Farmer’s Markets in Highland, Atwater, Silverlake. There’s too many.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly, I would like to shoutout my good friend Inso. He is also a really dope artist and producer, and we really pushed each other and locked in together. We went to the same high school and middle school but didn’t know of each other until way after, which I think is really funny. When we first met up, we had similar visions of what music meant to us and what we wanted to create. Fast forward, we decided to go in on a studio together during covid. If he hadn’t pushed for this, we definitely would not have been able to do a lot of the work we ended up doing. His work ethic and talents are one of a kind, and he is a really great and inspiring friend.
Secondly, I want to shout out PAPERCOMPANY and Sean Grand. PAPERCOMPANY is an amazing producer and has brought me into many spaces that continue to show me my own possibilities in this industry and how I need to move in this industry. He also introduced me to Sean Grand. Sean is now my manager, and his professionalism and passion for the industry fuels my drive to do crazy things and show what I am capable of. I am beyond excited to see what this little team will achieve.
