We had the good fortune of connecting with Janet Cerda and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janet, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When i first started my business, the process was extremely overwhelming, and i had no clear direction, but i knew i had to take the first step and just start.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Growing up with coffee gave me a passion that inspired me to start my own coffee business. Not just your ordinary coffee shop I incorporate the flavors of my childhood into handcraft drinks using Mexican – inspired sweets adding that extra layer of sweetness to the lattes. I’m proud to have maintained consistency over the past two years. i owed my success to my supportive family without whom i wouldn’t be where i am today, running a business can be overwhelming and I’m grateful for my friends who lend a hand when needed. It was not easy as a first-generation business entrepreneur, i faced a steep learning curve. However, this challenge prompted me to proactively seek out the information i needed, along the way. I’ve face challenges and lessons including the importance of perseverance and creativity. I traveled out of the country to Guatemala to source the finest coffee beans, and during my exploration of the coffee farms, i discovered a wonderful family-owned coffee farm inwhom I meet Leo at P14 that help me put together a unique blend that would elevate our drinks and give it the right balance. I’m grateful and proud that when you support us, you’re helping a family maintain their farm, which is why my goal is to continually explore diverse coffee origins and purchase beans from family-owned farms.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being from Boyle Heights has been an incredible experience, particularly when it comes to food culture, which reflects the diverse backgrounds of our community, allowing me to explore a variety of cuisines without leaving the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Through the simple act sharing coffee with my grandma before heading to school i felt the love, peace and quality time that was truly priceless, inspiring me to pursue my dreams and create a coffee business.
