Meet Jannette Ramos | Camden, NJ City Councilwoman Ward 4, CEO/Founder It Takes A Village Housing, Author of Book Where’s Mom?, Fitness instructor, Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jannette Ramos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jannette, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most profound lesson my career has tenderly imparted is the transformative power of genuine human connection and compassion. Through my love for people and the earnest desire to make a positive difference in their lives, I’ve learned that every interaction, no matter how seemingly small, holds the potential to uplift, inspire, and heal. By embracing empathy and extending a helping hand with an open heart, I’ve witnessed the profound impact of kindness in fostering trust, building relationships, and fostering a sense of community. Thus, I’ve come to understand that in the tapestry of life, it is the seeds of love and service that weave the most beautiful and meaningful patterns, enriching both the lives of others and my own. There is a quote by Mother Theresa that says, “Spread Love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.”

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As the councilwoman of Camden City Ward 4, I am deeply committed to serving my community with integrity, compassion, and dedication. I consider it both an honor and a privilege to represent the residents of my ward, Born in Camden, NJ and as a resident of this city, I am striving tirelessly to address constituent concerns, advocate for their needs, and champion positive change. Through collaborative efforts with fellow council members, community leaders, and residents, I am dedicated to fostering a safer, more prosperous, and inclusive environment for all who call Camden City home. I am proud to be a part of this internal change and I am so excited to spearhead initiatives that contribute to the ongoing positive transformation of our beloved city. One such endeavor focuses on revitalizing our neighborhoods through a community-driven project. An example of one is the “Bulk Waste Collection” initiative that I created supported by the mayor. Once a month, Bulk Trash (Sofas, electronics, metal, wood, etc.) is collected from resident’s homes so that these items are not out on the streets, causing unnecessary havoc. This is a good way of eliminating some of the illegal “dumping” that goes on in the city. It also cultivates a thriving urban environment where families feel safe, businesses flourish, and opportunities abound. Together, we will continue to build upon the momentum of positive change, ensuring that Camden emerges as a beacon of hope, resilience, and opportunity for generations to come.
As the founder of It Takes a Village Housing, I am driven by a profound passion for supporting and empowering women who have faced struggles with drug and alcohol abuse while striving to keep their families intact. Our supportive housing program provides a nurturing and empowering environment where women can receive the care, resources, and support they need to overcome addiction, regain stability, and rebuild their lives. By offering a holistic approach that addresses both the root causes of substance abuse and the underlying social and economic challenges, we strive to empower women to break free from the cycle of addiction and create brighter futures for themselves and their children.
Additionally, As the author of the book “Where’s Mom,” I have shared the obstacles that children face, when not raised by their parent specifically mothers. Through heartfelt storytelling and personal insights, I aim to raise awareness, foster empathy, and inspire hope for those navigating similar challenges as a single parent. By sharing my own journey and experiences, I hope to offer solace, encouragement, and practical guidance to individuals and families facing similar struggles, reminding them that they are not alone and that healing, and transformation is possible. I share about the importance of a mother in a child’s life.
Aside from my professional endeavors, I am deeply committed to giving back to my community through volunteering at various organizations in Camden, NJ. Whether it’s lending a helping hand at the Camden Ray and Joan Kroc Salvation Army, participating in the “Camden Strong” community cleanings, feeding the homeless at the Cathedral Kitchen, or engaging in other community service initiatives, I am fueled by a genuine passion for making a positive difference in the lives of others. Through these volunteer efforts, I am honored to contribute to the collective effort to build a stronger, more resilient community where all individuals have the opportunity to thrive.
The lessons I have learned along the way, is to have unconditional love for people no matter what the circumstances are. At the core of who I am lies an unwavering commitment to embodying unconditional love for all people and a passion to extend a helping hand, wherever it is needed. My heart beats with empathy, recognizing the inherent worth and dignity of every individual, regardless of their circumstances or background. I believe in the power of compassion and solidarity, I dedicate myself wholeheartedly to uplifting others, easing their burdens, and guiding them towards a brighter tomorrow. Whether it’s through acts of kindness, advocacy for social justice, or lending a listening ear, I strive to embody the transformative potential of love and service in every aspect of my life. With boundless love as my compass and a burning passion to make a positive difference, I lead my life with purpose, leaving a trail of kindness and hope in all whom I meet.
