We had the good fortune of connecting with Jared Magers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jared, why did you pursue a creative career?
I stumbled into video production and fell in love with it. I decided to pursue it as a career because I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I am self taught. I spent hundreds of hours learning all I could from YouTube videos and from friends I met in the industry. I joined Facebook groups and asked as many questions as I could… I literally got obsessed with video production… from camera operating, directing and video editing. I’ve spent countless nights awake practicing video editing. I would lose track of time. Video production is like magic. You can literally create anything your mind can think of.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The most important thing I learned along the way and what took me to the next level was finding my style. One thing about art is that it is subjective… I started making videos based on what I wanted to create and what I thought looked good. My style is very dramatic & moody and some might not like that… but the ones that do absolutely love it.

When I first started, I would create everything and anything that would come my way. I believe all beginners should do this but when you find a style that you love, stick to it and perfect it. This will set you a part from the rest.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite places to go to escape the city is Joshua Tree. I love being in the middle of nowhere with no one around. Being able to relax without hearing cars driving down the street or sirens driving by my front door. Joshua Tree holds a special place in my heart as I have countless amazing memories there.

If I picked a place a little closer to home… I definitely suggest checking out Huntington Beach. During the summer they have amazing concerts on the beach and is one of the last places in Southern California you can still have a fire on the beach. They have designated fire pits and it makes for a wonderful night with friends. Also, it makes for some great photos!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out a few YouTube accounts that really helped me on my journey and if you are into video production you should check out as well.
