We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Owens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my waxing business, The Diamond Complexion, because I wanted to do something that truly reflected my values—by creating a space where clients feel seen, comfortable, and never rushed. In past jobs, I realized that working under someone else’s brand often came with limitations on how I could serve my guests. I wanted the freedom to build genuine relationships, use quality products I believe in, and create a space clients actually look forward to visiting.

Starting my own business gave me control over my time, my growth, and the experience I offer. It allowed me to connect with my clients on a deeper level, while educating them and providing the best products—both on the backbar and the retail shelf.

More than anything, it gave me the chance to turn my passion into purpose—and build something I’m truly proud of.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At this stage of my life, I’ve walked many paths but they all led me to where I am today. Each experience, whether personal or professional has taught me something valuable about people and service. Those experiences allow me to bring not only technical skill but also emotional awareness which shapes the way I show up in the treatment room. What truly sets me apart is that I bring my whole self into my studio every lesson, every challenge, and every win and I use all of it to create an experience that’s not only professional, but personal.

My road to waxing definitely wasn’t easy. Before I found my passion in this industry, I went to college three different times for three completely different career paths. I was able to embed myself into every career I studied but things didn’t go as planed and after all those years I honestly was left discouraged.

I never quite understood how some people seemed to discover their passions early in life. But eventually, I found esthetics and everything started to click. I felt confident doing something that came naturally.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that starting a business might sound simple in theory, but in reality, you end up wearing every hat, especially in the beginning. It can be overwhelming and even make you question yourself at times. But what I’ve come to realize is that no matter how difficult something was for me to learn or figure out, the feeling of accomplishing it makes every late night and challenge worth it.

I remember being up until 2 or 3 in the morning, trying to finish something I had no prior experience with, finally figuring it out, and crying happy tears because I did it. That kind of growth is something no one can take from me.

What I want the world to know is that I built The Diamond Complexion with a whole lot of love, intention, and heart. Every piece of it reflects who I am, what I’ve learned, and the passion I have for making people feel confident and cared for. It’s more than just a business, it’s a part of my story.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother has always been a constant source of strength. Watching her navigate life with grace and resilience taught me how to persevere and stay grounded. Her strength, unconditional love, and faith in me have shaped so much of the woman I am today, both personally and professionally. She’s the reason I have the drive and strength to pursue my dreams. She also taught me the importance of keeping God at the center of everything—reminding me that with faith, anything is possible.

And my long time boyfriend whose been my rock through every high and low. Whether it was late nights planning, words of encouragement when things felt overwhelming, or simply being by my side without question, his support has never wavered.

I truly wouldn’t be where I am without them.
