We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Rollins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve wanted to be a therapist since I was in the fourth grade. I knew that meant years of schooling, and I was willing to take that on. Initially, when I got my license to practice, I was fine with working for an agency. Not until my doctorate program in the USC School of Social Work, did I understand how dynamic a social work degree can be. The program takes such an innovate approach at agency and community entrepreneurship, so throughout my studies there, I was able to understand how I can expand my micro level work into macro level leadership.

I’m in the business of understanding the human mind, how we interact with one another, and what drives us to function. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of representation for BIPOC woman in the mental health field, Starting an agency that not only reflects diversity, but also invites clients in who want to take a cultural humble response to their treatment was/is important to me.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Organic Therapy Network is a mental health platform and a private practice clinic that hosts individual therapy, couples and family therapy and mental health workshops. By taking a culturally humble approach to Evidence Based Practices, it allows for treatment to be tailored to individuals needs. Additionally, I offer clinical supervision to associate therapists needing to gain hours for licensure and clinical consultation in accordance to the California Board of Behavioral Sciences standards. Mental Health Workshops are offered occasionally as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My community is powerful. I naturally have to start with my father, Charles and mother, Elisabeth. I remember my 4th grade yearbook, it had our name under our photo, and a blurb on what we want to be when we grow up, mine said “Psychologist/Therapist”. I brought that yearbook home, my parents read it and said, “Well then that’s what you’ll be”. Since that moment, they supported every single step. My dad has a beautiful saying when I was working so hard that I thought I’d quit, “Imagine the most beautiful place you’ve ever seen, but it’s across a big pond. You don’t think you’ll be able to get there, but you look down and see steppingstones. You have to take one step at a time. Thats life Jas, every season in life is a steppingstone to the other side of the pond. Don’t worry, you’ll get there”.

I also have incredible friends who are immensely supportive of my education journey. There were so many times while I was in school that I had a paper to write, an assignment due, and my friends hung out with me while completing my work. Showing up to my graduations, referring clients to me, attending the conferences I speak at, and sharing the content I create, it means so much to me.

Mental Health is a small community. You meet different therapists, who are at different stages in their career, and you develop a symbiotic relationship with them where you are able to consult and collaborate, it’s so imperative to ones growth in this profession.
