We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Betts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
My parents…….I thank my parents for giving me everything I needed for my journey. The most impactful is purpose. Understanding my purpose in life is very powerful and important. Also, my dedication to do more for those who lack opportunities, hope, love, and support. Being passionate in your field is an amazing experience. My passion is my purpose.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My current profession/business development started off decades ago while working as a student worker at San Diego Probation Juvenile Hall. I witnessed the lack of attention, services, information provided, and support to underserved individuals and communities. I’ve been inspired since my 20’s and have maintained the focus over the years. Since my purpose is my passion, it’s been easy for me. I’m patient with myself and understand the real journey is the day-to-day activities. I’m not concerned with the finish line or what the other organizations are doing, I’m focused on what I need to do, personally and professionally, and the people I serve. As my father told me when I was a child, “son, run your race.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are first stopping at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles for breakfast (LA on Pico or Pasadena on Lake) or get theeeeee best pancakes at Pie & Burger in Pasadena. For lunch, the greatest sandwich spot in Southern Cali, Perry’s Joint in Pasadena. My favorites are the pastrami sandwich, turkey sandwich, and the chili cheese turkey dog is also good. For dinner, I’m a simple man, so I would take them to CPK (California Pizza Kitchen). Both the Thai Chicken pizza and their Jambalaya pasta (extra sauce please) are delicious. I would show them the Santa Monica pier and Venice boardwalk for outside entertainment, the African-American Museum in LA, and maybe catch a sports game, depending on the season (Dodgers-USC Women’s basketball-LAFC-Rams), Crypto Arena (Lakers) and boardwalk area (shops, bowling, entertainment), Magic Mountain, and the Hollywood area tour (I did that for the first time 2 years ago and it was fun).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I always thank God first for everything He provides for me and my family. I thank my amazing parents, Edgar & Mattie Betts, for consistently loving me and providing the awesome foundation for my journey. I thank my incredible wife, Lolita, for being my peace, loving me, keeping me balanced, and providing wise counsel. She is truly one of one. I thank my uncles and aunts who provided teachings, love, support and were an extension of my parents. I thank my adult children for being a reflection of the things we instilled in them. I thank my two business partners, Shawn Dandy & Tevis Verrett, for believing in me & supporting Life Builders. I thank my past experiences, good, bad, and the in-between. Those experiences assisted with my personal development, especially the uncomfortable experiences. Like a young mentee shared with me, “my pain is my power.”
