We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason D McKean and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason D, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I think that my work of reading Tarot for people does have a positive social impact. All counseling looks to help build awareness within the people that you interact with. If they are aligning with their personal or professional goals and making progress in them, then their outlook becomes brighter, and those around them are affected in positive ways as well. One becomes an inspiration to others in attaining their goals.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When I started out as a Tarot reader about 10 years ago, it was just about getting private clients to read for. After a couple years of growing a clientele base, people started asking me to teach them Tarot. I offered one-on-one classes and that grew into teaching group classes at some of the stores that I was reading for. About the same time, there were colleagues who were promoting their services on their own podcasts, and they asked me to be a guest. I like that medium a lot, so not long after, I started my own podcast called “Wizard Talk” and created around 200 episodes.

Through all of the deep conversations about the inner workings of Tarot, I was able to hone my personal philosophy about it and develop clear ideas about how to teach it to students. The obvious choice to expand this knowledge was to write about it in book form, but I didn’t feel I had the time to do it.

And then came the pandemic, and suddenly I had the time.

So after readjusting all of my live readings and classes to Zoom online, including international classes in Japan, I started writing what I knew about Tarot. This came out as the book “Magic Channel Tarot Reading with the Tarot Wizard” which I self-published through Amazon (I had been an art director before I became a Tarot Wizard). This book is a Spiritual Overview of how one can read Tarot.

Sometimes a book has a life of it’s own, and I got a great response, so I set out to write a 2nd book that specifically covered all of the 78 Tarot cards, called “Tarot Circles & Cycles: Reading the Flow of Energy In the Tarot” This one ended up as a #1 Best-selling release in a couple of Amazon categories.

When you are in a flow of success, you have to allow for that direction to lead you to the next part of your career that is opening up. This being Los Angeles and all, there have been many opportunities to be a part of video/pilot projects and I’m involved in a number of them at present. We’ll see what takes off in the coming year!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is an abundance of places to go to in Los Angeles. My friends have an interest in the supernatural, so either we’re going to Hollywood Forever Cemetery or Westwood Village that has Marilyn Monroe and other celebrities interred. Holy Cross is amazing too. I like to just walk around and see who you find.

I’m older so I don’t care about the theme parks so much, I respect the older parts of the city where there is interest to keep it preserved. Watts Tower would be on the list, as well as many of the Victorian mansions around the city. St Sophia Cathedral near Koreatown is incredible inside. The Bradbury Building in downtown. Parts of Griffith Park are cool to hike around like the Fern Dell Nature Trail. Kathmandu Boutique in Santa Monica. The Wayfarers Chapel in Palos Verdes is so peaceful to visit.

I loved Paramount Ranch before it burned down in the Woolsey fire.

My wife took me to the Mosaic House in Venice last summer, and it knocked my socks off. I love the dedication of artists who are looking to make a mark with their art form in unique ways. Having said that, I’m a sucker for Rodeo Drive in Bev Hills too. Especially at Christmas time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wholeheartedly agree that our success is a group effort and I recognize all of my colleagues in the Tarot / Psychic community that I’ve worked with as having an influence on my path of growth and expansion. I would dedicate this shoutout to my wife Sumire, who is incredibly disciplined in all that she works to attain. She operates at high levels of responsibility and respect for what she does in life, and that is very inspiring to me.
