We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Paige and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, why did you pursue a creative career?
We are inherently creative beings. Everything that exists on this planet that is not nature comes from the imagination of the individual self expressing creating reality out of nothing. My pursuit of an artistic and creative career was more a conscious avoidance of predictable methodical expected behaviors that I was rigorously funneled into throughout my 12 years of institutionalized education. I instinctively knew I wasn’t supposed to be one thing that I was supposed to decide on when I was 12 years old and spend the rest of my life doing that single thing. There is much joy in the unpredictable. The uncertain. The surprise… Life is a grand improvisation that has no certain end or beginning.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Over the course of my 35 years of professional creative artistic activity my art has taken many forms. From being a street magician to singing, writing and performing multiple bands as a multi-instrumentalist to producing my own music and for television and film to creating my own comedy tv sketch show to acting on screen and on stage in musical theater to free form sharpie art on clothing, canvases, cards and more.

What set me apart in many of these crafts is my ability to take risks and free fall into the unknown. Allowing the art to write itself by responding organically to whatever opportunities present themselves at the moment.

I’m especially excited about my work with communities. Each year I produce conduct and perform in a Beatles gospel nativity.. “A hard day’s silent night” is a retelling of the nativity story with Beatles songs and incredible gospel arrangements delivered by a community of 60 or more or supertalented cast members who set aside lots of time to donate their time and talents to entertain and raise money for children’s charities in Los Angeles.

I got to where I am today professionally by investing in my diversity of interests vocally. Emulating and imitating many singers I have developed the ability to transform my singing voice into a vast variety of characters, sounds and styles Thus I can serve the objectives of many different projects. Since 1994 I have performed An average of A 150 sessions a year each representing a different product with a different profile.

Along the way, I’ve learned that each effort Each choice each performance each session is a seed planted for the future. We don’t know what’s going to happen What is going to grow. All we can do is give it our all with the planting of each one. Then we can move on and the world will water each seed Uniquely and differently than we could have expected. Sometimes it takes decades.. The Pokemon theme session was a seed planted in 1998 that became an absolute jungle of opportunity for billions of people around the world and again for me in 2016.

My story is continuing to unfold as I continue to unfold to myself. I will try to bring that unfolding to the world. To use my imagination to creatively self express.

This will be taking shape May 19th 2022 in Las Vegas as I’ll be introducing Pokemon fans to more of my own original music in high stakes poke themed musicalized box/pack break concert experience.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
What’s most impressive and exciting about this environment is the combination of mountain and ocean. There are incredible vistas throughout the entire city one needs only to drive to the top.. There are amazing beaches up and down the coast. El matador north of Malibu is one of the best. I appreciate all the variety of organic vegan restaurants of all types avoiding the toxins that plague our environment and food system. Pura Vida has the best organic Italian Vegan.

I also make it a point to take friends to the fresh flowing Falling Springs in Azusa where I personally capture / collect all of my drinking / cooking water. Every few weeks I bring 15 or so 5-gallon bottles to this naturally flowing Spring 4000′ above sea level. It’s regularly tested and some of the best water on the planet freely flows from it endlessly.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Billy Porter! I first experienced Billy Porter as a teen angel in Greace when I was on tour with the musical Hair in Minneapolis. They were right across the street and our show ended early enough for us to 2nd act it. This performance blew me away and opened me up to vocal possibilities way beyond anything I’d ever heard or conceived of. He transformed the song into a personal expression of his uniquely exceptional craft and ability..I emulated every note using that recording as my vocal training workout to stretch my own limitation. I eventually manifested singing alongside with Billy in Mark Shaimen’s Aged Ham, many years of Broadway Inspirational Voices, and on tour supporting his debut album.

His performances back then would leave nothing in the tank. It was always all in!
I have learned from him to invest in every performance, soundcheck, session, and as if it’s the last thing you’ll ever do on the planet. Make it all count!
