We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasper DeShields and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasper, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
I disagree with the old blueprint of success. I think there’s still a marginal gap between most peoples understanding of what’s needed to thrive long term in todays society compared to maybe 50-60 years ago. The old ecosystem of educational funnel systems that led to long term into the workplace comfort has changed a lot because of the ease of access to almost unlimited knowledge. The principles remain the same but the power is in the hands of the people more than the larger conglomerates now.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Honestly I wanted to be a brain surgeon. My career goals changed much later but I always knew my goal was to help people in the way that’s meant for me. That’s led me to working in the healthtech ecosystem as a product manager while learning how to grow as an entrepreneur through side businesses like TrainWithJasD. As far as lessons I’ve honestly learned losses teach you more than wins so do your best to learn from them.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly man if they don’t want to chill, talk sports, watch some movies/anime, catch-up, and get some food they might’ve called the wrong friend. But if I did have a friend visiting Jersey we’d probably vibe to philly hit some bars catch a sixers game get some good food. Definitely would get them around some of my more lively friends if they really wanted to have a turn up kind of trip.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, biggest shoutout gotta go to my moms of course, my girl, my family and friends. Entrepreneurship and pursuing an unconventional path can get lonely. Gotta appreciate the blessings around you when you do have people to support you.
