Meet Jay Flat | Musician & DJ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Flat and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jay, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Chicago and I believe I come from a very supportive background. My family, friends, teachers, and favorite professors we all very loving and supportive of my interests. I think having that background has made me go into as many things as I can with an fun, grateful, and open mind.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I think what sets me apart from others is probably my openness and my fun but hustling spirit. Im honestly most proud of being able to be a full time working musician in Los Angeles in 2025. I’m most excited about playing and making music with others any chance I get. I got to where I today with a lot of hark work and perseverance for sure but I would say mostly from my friends. They are the ones that help you when you can’t help yourself sometimes. Was it easy…at sometimes is definitely was. Thats not to say music was easy but it’s like all along deep down inside I knew this is what I was meant to do. I’ve rea;;y ;earned that this is really a long game anyway you look at it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Monday I would bring them to the historic Lighthouse Cafe in Hermosa Beach for the Jazz session led by Jaques Lesure. Tuesday we would go to Chinatown and hear some great music and enjoy delicious cocktails at both General Lee’s and Melody Lounge as they are right across the street from each other. Wednesday we could go have a nice dinner at this beautiful but lowkey restaurant in North Hollywood called “Verse.” Thursday we would go see The Gumbo Bros at Anderson Paak’s new club “Andy’s” in West Hollywood. Friday we go see a magic show and a late night funk show with Butter Funk Family at Black Rabbit Rose. Saturday would go to have dinner and cocktails at level 8. Sunday would be the day of rest! My favorite new venue in LA is definitely The Bellwether in DTLA. It is the ultimate vibe in there and sound is A1.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Mr. David Eanes.
He was my high school band who really pour so much into not only my musicianship but to my character as far work ethic in everything I do. There is always something to learn and everything takes time.
