We had the good fortune of connecting with JAY STEEL and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi JAY, how do you think about risk?
Well I honestly feel like if you don’t take risks in life, in your career, or with any new opportunity you’ll always live with that never ending question of “what if”
I think risks are so important in your career, especially when you’re young! I look at high risks with the potential of having a high reward! When i’ve taken risks with my career and my life, i feel even more empowered and motivated than if I hadn’t. Also, when I’ve taken risks and don’t succeed, I always learn lessons that end up being valuable in the long run! If you’re scared of failing then you’ll stay comfortable! and i’m all about stepping out my comfort zone! Risks have a huge role in my life and career that started ever since i was a kid! i started skateboarding when i was 9 years old and my parents were so scared for me to try it because of the risk of me getting hurt! but i’ve always prevailed from injuries and every time i learned a new trick, it legit made me feel like superman! I carry that same energy towards my model career a lot of gigs won’t be the ones i truly want but, the risk will always open new doors and new connections for me to reach the goals i’m trying to achieve! Again–high risk, high reward. I see my rewards daily and I’m thankful for taking the risks i have so far.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The one thing that really sets me apart from others is that IM MORE THAN A MODEL AND MUSIC ARTIST!! My life goal is to be a renaissance man like Donald Glover, Kanye West ,Travis Scott, Evan Mock, Jamie Foxx! The Sky Is The Limit but i never want to limit myself with anything i do in my life, because once i do that. i wont be as successful as i want to be! You have to allow yourself to go all in! balls to the wall! you have to shoot for the stars and aim for the moon! Truthfully, when your own the road to success it should never be smooth. Everything happens for a reason and i really feel like God wanted me to go through the trails n tribulations. There’s always beauty in the struggle and sometimes you have to fail to really understand your purpose in life! i’ve encountered so many struggles whether that be me sleeping from couch to couch or facing periods of time where I’m flat broke, it’s always worth it to me! I would rather struggle pursuing something I love, and i’m passionate about than doing something that I’m “supposed to do”.
Being an artist, let alone a person in this day and age is really tough. Putting your passion out on full display for everyone to see is really scary, especially since i dedicate my life to these things. I caught myself for the longest time, not releasing anything because I was afraid that people wouldn’t appreciate it or that it wasn’t good enough.
Luckily im so blessed to have a solid group who will always support and push me to brake barriers every opportunity i get.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I Definitely want to Shoutout my family, my friends, my brothers, my girl and everyone else who helped shape me into the person i am! it took a village but i appreciate y’all so much you have no idea!
