Meet Jayce Baron | Neighborhood Council Member, Advocate & Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jayce Baron and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jayce, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My tagline has been the intersection of advocacy and entertainment. I’ve been blessed to direct documentaries, produce scripted films, and sit on the board of Yale University’s psychology department. With everything I’ve been involved with, it has had a connection to moving humanity in a positive more cohesive direction.
I’m excited to continue my community service with my recent appointment on my Neighborhood Council through the City of Los Angeles. I’ve always worked in politics advocating for the needs of marginalized communities, most known for my contribution to passing SB813 with Assemblymember Mike Gipson, former Senator Connie Leyva, and powerhouse Attorney Gloria Alred among several other brave women. This bill revoked the former statute of limitations on rape charges in the State of California and was signed by former governor, Jerry Brown in 2016.
Whether it be HIV awareness and connection to resources, access to healthcare, or simply creating a space for communities to mobilize and work together in numbers, I realize my purpose in life is to show people they too have the power to help others, find peace, and give grace.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My tagline is “The Intersection of Advocacy and Entertainment”. For over a decade I committed my time and energy to merging these two industries to bring conversation, nuance, and hope to any and everyone. I’m an award-winning published author, who produced and directed a multi-award-winning documentary alongside my partner, Pose star Hailie Sahar. which addresses the many intersections Black and Brown marginalized LQBTQ+ people face, especially trans women. I’ve also been involved with passing legislation with state politicians, including SB813 revoking the statute of limitation on rape charges in the state of California in 2016 at the peak of the #MeToo Movement with Assembly Member Mike Gipson, Gloria Alred, former Senator Connie Leyva, among other dedicated women.
In my newest appointment as a Neighborhood Council Member in the City of Los Angeles, I’m excited to continue my work on a local level and serve my community.
The journey has only been difficult when I have tried to do things my way. I’m a very spiritual person, but sometimes the human part of me has gotten in the way of what my purpose and destiny have had in store for me. As soon as I surrender, not only does my healing journey to humanity become easier for me to contribute, but I am also happier in my individual experience in life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I recently stumbled upon The Gathering Spot at their West Adams location. It’s a members-only national social club with delicious food and good vibes. I’ve come to work for the day, have had a great lunch meeting, and attended an informative event.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In 2023, I lost a lot of people who helped me and encouraged me to lean on my instincts and abilities to mobilize and serve my community. Jerris Madison gave me my first paid writing opportunity for Obvious Magazine. He passed away in January 2023. My grandmother, Corrie Sadler, was a retaliant Black woman from Alabama who made it out of her circumstances and became a well-known educator and civil rights advocate in Connecticut who worked with President Jimmy Carter. She passed away in October. And finally, the LGBTQ+ Los Angeles legend Ivan Daniels passed at the end of the year. Ivan had recognized me for my grassroots initiatives early in my career then took on the role as my mentor and appointed me to my first board member position for his non-profit, Independent Development Success helping underserved youth in the community.
All of these transitions of these important people not only to my life but to society as a whole, reminded and encouraged me to continue to be a pillar and do all I can to save humanity and remind everyone that we all are interconnected and play a role in society.
