We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaye Madison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaye, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks is the cornerstone of any significant success! Our entire lives we have stayed true to our passion and vision as artists and so far following that little sparkle in our hearts has never let us down. It’s lead us on detours that served as lessons, but we have never completely fallen off track. In the music business you have to surround yourself with people you trust at all times. With that comes trial and error. We are lucky to have the support system we have around us. We currently work with the amazing team at Bsquared MGMT who introduced us to what we believe is going to be our “big break” moment. We recently recorded our debut album in LA at Revolver Recordings, working with Grammy Award winning Mikal Blue (Colbie Caillat, Jason Mraz, OneRepublic, Five for Fighting). We were able to record with Dean Dinning and Josh Daubin of Toad the Wet Sprocket and Michael Ward of The Wallflowers. The entire experience has been a dream come true for us. To be in the presence of musicians and professionals of this caliber who are into our music…it gave us the kick in the ass we needed to remember we are on the right track. We are so used to hearing no, and in many cases, all you need is the right yes to really get off the ground. If we hadn’t taken the risk at age 18 to move away from our small town and follow our hearts to Nashville, none of this would be happening right now. It was scary, but we would do it again no question. If our younger selves could see us now, they would be jumping for joy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The most amazing thing about working together is that we are each other’s built in co-writers. As twins, we are completely honest with one another. We have high standards for our craft. If one of us is slacking, the other one will tell them. It’s a special kind of trust. It’s a strange concept for us to be open to writing with anyone else. I’m sure we will have to grow more in that area, but honestly we both make up for each other’s weaknesses and the final product is always amazing. We are not only twins but young women with something to say in our lyrics and our sound. We’ve spent the last two years really honing in on who we are and what we want to be known for. A lot of songs about women involve pitting them against each other or fighting or crying over a guy. That’s so overdone, and more than ever we need women’s voices singing songs that don’t have men at the center of them. We have our own stories, and life isn’t just about finding Prince Charming. We sing about women empowerment, friendship, and just navigating life in general as a human being. Our first album involves a bit of romance and lamenting on lost love, but that’s just it, it’s only part of the story. Women are multi-faceted and have so many interesting aspects to who we are beyond that. This is an introspective yet empowering coming of age set of songs that we can’t wait to share with the world. It’s even more special because two women who are best friends are doing it. Of course our music is for everyone, but we especially want to be a voice for women who haven’t heard their perspective or stories on the radio before.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you’re visiting Nashville for the first time, here is a great itinerary:

-Brunch at Loveless Cafe
-Tour the Grand Ole Opry
-Lunch at the Listening Room Cafe listening to a live writer’s round
-Touring the Country Music Hall of Fame
-Dinner at Skull’s Rainbow Room
-Nightcap at Fleet Street Pub

If you’re staying a week, definitely throw in:

-Bar hopping on Broadway
-Touring the Ryman
-Bluebird Cafe
-Centennial Park
-12 South
-Seeing as much live music as possible

Surely we are missing something here because there is always some cool place to go in the 615!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We are lucky enough to have had many supporters throughout the years.

Currently our biggest support system is our family, our parents, our friends, our producers Mikal Blue and Dean Dinning, and of course our team at Bsquared MGMT lead by the amazing Birdee Bow.
